A team with a history of playoff failure, it took the Capitals nine years just to make the playoffs, 15 years to get to a conference final series and 23 years to get to the Stanley Cup final. Once they got there, the Caps weren’t around for long. They were swept in the minimum four games by the defending champion Detroit Red Wings.
