Sweden captured the hearts of soccer fans in Europe when they reached the semi-final of Euro 92 and then the quarter-final in 2004, but the three other occasions Sweden has qualified for the finals, they have failed to get out of their group. This looks like continuing at Euro 2016 due to them being placed in Group E alongside Belgium, Italy, and Republic of Ireland, although the Swedish star will be doing their utmost to ensure that their legion of fans, adorned in yellow face paint, stick around in France for as long as possible. The Swedes finished third in qualifying Group G, some 10 points behind winners Austria, and two behind Russia. This meant Sweden headed for the playoffs where they faced neighbors Denmark in a two-leg game, which they won 4-3 on aggregate to book their place at Euro 2016.

Head coach Erik Hamren’s 23-man squad heading to the Euros is a mixture of youth and experience, and three of his players have more than 100 caps.

Goalkeeper and vice-captain Andreas Isaksson has 128 appearances, Kim Kallstrom 127 caps, and Zlatan Ibrahimovic 112 caps and 62 goals, making “Ibra” the country’s top scorer.

Ibrahimovic is 35-years-old in October so this is likely to be the last major live soccer tournament he plays in, and knowing how highly Ibrahimovic thinks of himself, he alone should be enough reason to tune into Sweden’s Euro 2016 games as he attempts to end his international career on a high note.

Sweden Game Schedule

June 13 is the date that Sweden kick off their Euro 2016 campaign with a match in Saint-Denis against Republic of Ireland. The Swedes need to secure all three points to have a chance. [+]

Those fixtures take place in Toulouse on June 17 against Italy, then Nice on June 22 against Belgium. If Belgium have already qualified by that stage, Sweden could well nick all three points.

Sweden Online Betting Tips

Sweden are priced at approximately +6600 to win Euro 2016 in France, which compared to joint favorites Germany and France at +350 shows how fancied they are for glory.

You can find odds of +600 for Sweden to win Group E, and -125 for them to qualify for the knockout stages, but also -110 for them to be eliminated in the group stages, and +162 for them to finish rock bottom of the group.

The best value will probably be found betting on Sweden’s individual games, with a sports betting site offering in-play, or live, betting being preferable as you can watch the action unfold as you place your wagers.

Odds of +2800 on Zlatan Ibrahimovic being the competition’s top scorer are far too long to consider, especially as there’s a significant chance his team will be gone after their three group games.
