AFC West Division in 2015, which was the club’s worst season since 2003. With San Diego having made only one playoff appearance since 2010, the Chargers have lost their spark in recent years. At least Chargers fans can rest easy at talks about their possible relocation to Los Angeles have fallen through. The team can now concentrate solely on football, which is a blessing for both the players and fans alike.

San Diego, depite its dismal on-field performaces in recent years, has produced some high-voltage highlights during the initial decade of its founding in the 1960s. Established as an American Football League (AFL) team along with seven others in 1959, the Chargers were originally based in Los Angeles before their relocation to San Diego in 1961. Lance Alworth helped the Chargers capture several division titles prior to the merge of the AFL and NFL in 1970.

The Chargers have been on a decline in ensuing decades as they have made only three playoff appearances. San Diego’s only NFL championship appearance was in 1994, where the Chargers faced the 49ers in Super Bowl 29.

San Diego Chargers Online Betting Tips

What led to the disappointing record of last season? Much of it can be attributed to the Chargers weak defense. San Diego placed 20th in the NFL last season, allowing an average of 361.1 yards per game. They need to sure up their defensive line to have any chance at a respectable record in 2016.

The Chargers also struggled stopping the rush. We don’t think they’ll be able to do a good enough job of closing their porous hole to make a run at the postseason in 2016.

Meanwhile, on the other side of the ball, the Chargers have shown some decent, if not outstanding, offensive capability. In large part due to Philip Rivers and his passing ability, San Diego placed ninth in the league in overall offense, averaging 371.8 yards per game during the regular season.

Philip Rivers: Leading the Charge

Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers was one of the lone bright spots in 2015. He led the AFC with 4792 passing yards. He’ll need a lot of help to be where he belongs, back under the playoff spotlight.

The only other NFL quarterback with more passing yards last season was the Saint’s Drew Brees. Who knows how dire San Diego would have been without Rivers at the healm. Even more impressive, Rivers obtained most of his passing yards without the services of tight-end Antonio Gates.
