Time and time again, people are left wondering whether or not some good news will be coming for the California betting push within the next year or not. As things stand, things remain illegal, but there's hope that maybe, just maybe, the state will make history and get things over the line this year. With that said, Fanatics is set to invest around $1 billion in betting ads and it could impact California in a major way. How so, you might ask?

Well, in case you missed it, Fanatics previously announced that it had launched Fanatics Markets, which also resulted in a market deal with exclusive rights in California. Because of this, you better believe that Fanatics is going to do everything it can to try and get things over the line in California too, as there's a major commercial opportunity there for the company. If and when California launches sports betting, it's going to bring in an insane amount of money for the state, and the betting handle should be through the roof.

"Fanatics Markets, launched in December 2025, gives the company access to markets including California, Florida, Georgia and Texas," Yogonet reported in a new piece. "Sports event contracts are regulated by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission instead of state gambling regulators. California, Georgia and Texas have not legalized sports betting, while Florida’s market belongs to Hard Rock Bet."

Despite things being a bit up in the air, it's safe to assume that California would become one of the biggest states sports betting wise if it did launch sports betting in 2027. Things remain totally up in the air there, but it will be interesting to see if this new push from Fanatics will end up spicing things up a bit. Californians have been dreaming of things getting legalized for years now, and with well over 30 states already doing so, there's no reason for California to keep missing out on all of the action too.

California is losing a ton of sports betting revenue with the MLB playoffs here

Looking at a sport in particular, it's safe to assume that California is losing a ton of sports betting revenue with the MLB playoffs here. While there's also excitement on the NFL season (more on that below), people in The Golden State are fired up about the Los Angeles Dodgers potentially posting a three-peat, as they understandably hold the top World Series betting odds to win it all again. Will the Dodgers be able to do so?

As of this writing, LA is in a heated battle with the Atlanta Braves in the NLDS, with the winner set to move on to the NLCS. The winner of that series would then reach the Fall Classic. Because of this, there's loads of money across the country going on the Dodgers to potentially win it all again, but people in California can't place in-person or online bets. However, as you all know by now, people can use prediction markets for World Series betting if they choose to do so.

However, what makes the postseason betting so fun are the prop bets and single-game action. Because of the laws in California, that's not on the table, but the hope is that by the time the postseason gets here next here, that will be a different story. Only time will tell if that happens or not.

NFL betting would be through the roof if California had legal sports betting

Elsewhere, there's simply no question that NFL betting would be through the roof if California had legal sports betting. As things stand, the LA Rams remain the Super Bowl betting favorites, while the San Francisco 49ers are also in the hunt thanks to some spectacular play from Brock Purdy. While the Chargers may be down in the dumps, SF and LA exploding like this has people talking and for good reason.

Once again, though, people can only bet on the two Super Bowl contenders through the prediction markets, which is beyond frustrating. This is the biggest time of the year for sports betting to reach a new level. You've got NFL action and the MLB postseason, with the NBA season around the corner.

California is 100 percent a big sports state, which means people would love nothing more than to place consistent bets on their favorite teams. Until the right kind of sports betting bill makes its way to the table, people are going to have to keep waiting, which is a bummer. The hope remains that perhaps 2027 will be when history can be made, but optimism isn't as high as it used to be.

Not that long ago, two sports betting bills were on the November ballot, but both failed. The hope is that at least one home-run bill will be on the ballot next November that people will approve. No one knows if that's going to happen or not, but if it does, then it's safe to assume that the betting numbers are going to be quite impressive.
