Ever since legalization arrived for Missouri sports betting, we've seen some pretty impressive handles come in. This has spoken volumes to the great decision that arrived by getting things over the line. However, not everything has gone perfectly, as a bit of wake-up call arrived recently, that's because the Missouri sports betting revenue took a small dive this summer, which caught everyone quite off guard a bit.

While we're still waiting for the official July numbers to get here, it has been reported that the June sports betting handle was $258 million which was great to see, but that the total revenue for the month was around $13.6 million, which unfortunately was a 36 percent decrease from May. While the total betting handle was an increase of less than one percent, the revenue dropping like that was surely something that people didn't expect.

"According to the Missouri Gaming Commission, total taxable revenue was $13.67 million, a 36% decrease from the previous month, and roughly $1.37 million was collected in sports wagering taxes," NPR Kansas City wrote in a new piece. "The number of wagers also decreased by 12% in June to 7.34 million. The total amount wagered in June was $258.3 million, a 0.8% increase from May."

The hope is that the numbers for July and August will increase a bit and make up for what we saw in June. What could potentially help with that is that the MLB betting should turn up a little bit with the heart of the second half of the season right around the corner. Despite that, seeing this dip for sports betting revenue was not something that people were expecting, and it might have some folks concerned at the same time.

With Arrowhead Stadium in Missouri being one of the host stadiums, thousands of people packed the stands for each game. With that, people were also betting left and right on some of the exciting games that took place. The World Cup betting as a whole across the world was massive.

With that, the expectation was that Missouri betting was going to be through the roof too. However, with less than a one percent increase in the betting handle from the month before, and a 36 percent decrease in the revenue, it's a major bummer for several different reasons. For August, the hope is that there will be a boost due to the NFL preseason betting here.

Also, you've got to figure that people are still going to be betting big on MLB action with the Cardinals still in action. With the Cardinals, though, you would have assumed that betting in June would have been sky-high, right? The opposite turned out to be the case, which is disappointing, especially with the World Cup going off at the same time. From our chair, it's a bit hard to make sense of this, but it will be interesting to see what kind of numbers arrive in the coming months.

Last season was a bit of a nightmare for Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid, as Mahomes tore his ACL and the Chiefs missed out on the postseason. It was an end to the year that no one expected, but now this team is motivated to prove the haters wrong.

As things stand the Chiefs hold +1700 Super Bowl betting odds, which is not usually what you'd expect from a team of this caliber. However, the Los Angeles Rams are the overwhelming favorites at +600, while the Seahawks aren't too far behind them at +800. Seattle of course are the reigning champions, as they were able to take down the New England Patriots last February at the 49ers Stadium in Santa Clara.

This season, though, you never know what might happen, but people in Missouri are no question going to be following the Chiefs quite closely and getting ready to bet on them each weekend. Only time will tell if the Chiefs will make people happy or not, but the sports betting numbers should be through the roof, especially with this being the first full football season in play since things were made legal in the state.
