Unfortunately for sports fans in the state, it doesn't look like Oklahoma betting news is going to get much better in 2027. While people have been hoping that a push for legalization will arrive next year, things aren't looking overly promising there. And with that, it's safe to say that Oklahoma's sports betting uncertainty is impacted by prediction markets continuing to operate in the state. How much longer is this going to be the case?
As you all know, sports betting is not legal in the state, but Kalshi is operating and allowing for people to place sports wagers. It's not just sports, though, as people can bet online on just about anything these days thanks to prediction markets being regulated federally. This is something Oklahoma officials are tired of, with chair of the Oklahoma Indian Gaming Association Matthew Morgan making his feelings clear on how things keep going south.
“We view sports prediction market apps as undermining the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act and Oklahoma/Tribal State compacts by allowing illegal Class III gaming to infringe upon the sovereignty of Tribal nations, and as undermining revenue streams that are critical to Tribal government programs and services,” Morgan said via an interview with City News OKC.
For a while now, there's been a battle between the local tribes and the state in trying to get legal sports betting over the line. However, nothing promising has arrived, and the prediction markets have sent things for even more of a loop. With lawmakers not happy about this too, it only adds to the drama. Oklahoma is hoping to get things figured out in the near future, but it's unknown how things are going to shape out here.
Oklahoma is still hoping to get prediction markets banned in the near future
Despite all of the uncertainty, don't forget that Oklahoma is still hoping to get prediction markets banned in the near future. It's not quite going to be just on them, however, as there's talks about things getting flipped and no longer being approved federally, but from a state-by-state basis. If that happens, it'd be on states to implement their own plans for the prediction markets. Right now, 18 year olds across the USA can place bets with the markets.
However, for a lot of different states, the minimum age has been set at 21. This is where a lot of the debate comes in for sports betting through the prediction markets. Several states indeed have things at 21 years of age as the minimum, but now people who are three years under that limit can place bets online through the prediction market apps. This is something in particular that Oklahomans are taking advantage of on a consistent basis.
The Hill: Private polling in the Oklahoma governor's election shows a tied race.

“I think we’re just gonna have to wait and see this go through the court system and see what the Supreme Court’s final ruling would be,” Oklahoma Senator Bill Coleman said via City News OKC on how things could be changed in the near future. “Whether or not the predictions markets can continue as they are, or will they need to be changed or regulated or just made illegal.”
While there's no sports betting in Oklahoma, there are casinos around, and the betting age is 18. Still, this all comes into the discussion for online betting that continues to be recorded through Kalshi and others. It will be interesting to see what the Supreme Court decides down the road, but it's a decision that people are anxiously waiting on.
Tribes remain hopeful that sports betting in Oklahoma can arrive in 2027
Despite the anger with the prediction markets, tribes remain hopeful that sports betting in Oklahoma can arrive in 2027. While it's still unknown whether or not a strong betting bill will make its way to the House, it's safe to say that the upcoming elections will certainly play a big-time role in things and impact the latest betting news for the state as a whole.
With the November ballot around the corner, a monster decision is on the way via the voters. The Governor race is incredibly tight, with the main candidates going back-and-forth among local citizens. While whoever gets elected won't single-handedly get sports betting approved, we all know that a change in office will help things out.
That's because current Governor Kevin Stitt has had a rocky relationship with the tribes, causing for a ton of friction - which has of course delayed the betting efforts. Oklahoma is one of 11 states without any form of legal sports wagers. Might that change next year? From our chair, it's going to be tough, but maybe, just maybe, everyone can get on the same page down the road.
