March Madness Futures Betting 2026

They don’t call this thing March Madness for nothing! No, the NCAA Tournament really is hard to predict, and we’re not just talking about filling out the entire bracket. Picking the single champion in the whole field is hard too, which is why it can pay so much when doing March Madness futures betting.
As the name implies, NCAA Tournament futures are concerned with far-out outcomes. Instead of March Madness betting game by game, you’re generally betting on what happens at the end of the season, like national champions, conference winners, and individual awards.
Futures bets are available most of the year — even before the college hoops season begins. And that influences the odds. The further away the outcome you’re putting money on, generally, the juicier the betting price. Sportsbooks will pay better odds because of the increased uncertainty around the outcome.
March Madness winner odds are available at this moment. For your convenience, we’ve pulled them from the best sportsbooks. Here’s who the bookies most think are cutting down the nets in 2027:

Best Sportsbooks For March Madness Futures
Just about every sportsbook offers March Madness future bets. But that alone doesn’t make them worthy sites.
Other things matter, too. Things like posting NCAA championship odds earlier sure helps, and so does offering them at the most bettor-friendly prices. The latter one is particularly clutch.
That’s why we recommend having accounts with several of the best March Madness betting sites. It gives you more futures to choose from and, more importantly, lets you shop around for the best possible odds. If you’re in need of some suggestions, we’d start with these three:
BetOnline — Best For March Madness Futures Odds
BetOnline is our top choice for bettors who want the most NCAA Tournament futures options possible under one roof. This bookie brings out lines like no one else’s business.
Of course, that means bettors have lots of choices, which is good. You’ll find odds on the championship favorites, sure, but BetOnline goes deeper than that. This site offers the full gamut of futures bets, and usually has them up earlier than most competitors.

BetUS — Best For March Madness Futures Bonuses
March Madness brings out some of the best promotions and bonuses of the entire year. That’s because there’s so much betting interest around the tourney that bookies “roll out the red carpet” for would-be bettors. BetUS doesn’t just roll out the carpet, they bring a freakin’ limo for its users!
Here’s why this matters during the tourney: smart bettors can leverage promos to squeeze extra value out of their bankroll. More money equals more bets or bigger-sized wagers — however you choose to spend that free money.
And frankly, no betting site doles out as much free money as BetUS. Not even close. It’s not hard to find $3,000 free-play deals here once March rolls around. Now just think how far that money could go when March Madness betting.

MyBookie — Best March Madness Futures Prices
MyBookie is our favorite pick for bettors hunting for the best prices on March Madness futures odds. The difference between getting a team at +1000 and +1200 might not look earth-shattering when placing the bet, but it sure as hell will be when that ticket cashes and you have 20 percent more to play with.
More than most sites, MyBookie makes sure you’re getting the max payout for your wager. Whenever we line shop, we see the most competitive NCAA Tournament futures prices right here.

Top March Madness Championship Contenders
As we write this, the 2026-27 NCAA hoops season is still months away. But as we said earlier, that doesn’t mean college basketball betting futures aren’t already up. They are, and they’ll give you a good idea of how the upcoming season might just shake out.
Here are the collegiate programs with the top March Madness championship odds. We’ve tiered them into different levels to make it easier on you to separate contenders from true favorites.
Betting Favorites
If you follow the sport, it should come as no surprise that the Florida Gators are betting favorites at +600 odds. It’s a model program that won the natty in 2024 and was an NCAA Tournament one seed in 2025, too. Florida returns several key players in Alex Condon, Boogie Fland, and Reuben Chinyelu — all three averaged more than 10 points a season ago. This is a model program, and that’s reflected in the leading NCAA championship futures odds.
You can say a lot of the same about Duke with its +650 line. This is a “blueblood” program, and arguably the sport’s most famous team. They too get back a bunch of contributors from last year’s Elite Eight squad like Caleb Foster, Cayden Boozer, and Dame Sarr.
Second-Tier Contenders
There’s a steep drop-off in the betting odds after Florida and Duke. Still, this next batch of teams is in the second tier of title contenders.
UConn (+1100) is there. They eliminated Duke a year ago, and went back-to-back on national titles in 2023 and 2024 (and came dangerously close in 2026, too). As long as Dan Hurley is the coach of this program, you can almost guarantee the Huskies will always be title threats.
Then there’s Michigan (+1200). This is your defending champions of the sport. Yes, they lost the backbone of that championship team (Dusty May), but it’s also not a complete rebuild. Title-game hero Elliot Cadeau is back alongside Trey McKenney, giving Michigan proven championship experience at guard while transfers J.P. Estrella and Moustapha Thiam try to replace what was lost inside.
Long Shots
What makes this category interesting is the upside when betting. These teams have higher odds of winning, thus higher payouts. But you’re still getting teams that can make a deep run if things line up just right.
There are a lot of teams to choose from here. Houston and Louisville are sitting at +2000, Arizona and Arkansas at +2200, and Kansas and Tennessee at +2500. All of these teams can point to recent success, a big transfer window, or top-level coaching to rationalize why “2027 will be their year.”
March Madness Futures Bet Types
Picking the national champion winner is NOT the only way of how to bet March Madness futures. Not even close! There are dozens and dozens of different kinds of future bet. Let’s quickly cover the most popular ones:
- National Championship Winner: We’ve said this one already, but it’s worth repeating just because of how popular it is — and how big the payout can get. Because of all this, championship odds are posted earlier than any other March Madness futures market. It’s up year-round, really.
- March Madness Final Four Futures: One of the most popular March Madness futures markets is picking who’ll make it to the Final Four. Popular because it allows you to pick a program you’re high on, but don’t necessarily think they can go all the way. The payout will be lower than its championship odds, but then again, it’s a tad easier to win, too.
- Elite Eight Futures: Same exact idea here, just one round earlier. These can be especially appealing on talented teams with one glaring weakness. You’re essentially betting that flaw won’t catch up to them until they’re already among the final eight.
- Sweet 16 Futures: Here, you only need a team to survive the tournament’s opening weekend. Naturally, favorites will have short prices, but this betting market can get much more interesting with lower seeds that draw favorable early matchups.
- Region Winner: This is practically a Final Four bet with a different name — win your region and you’re winning this. Just remember how important the bracket is to this wager. A contender stuck in a region with three other powerhouses should have a much different price than one that draws a comparatively open path.
- Conference Tournament Futures: This is not a Madness futures bet per se, but this is where postseason futures betting really starts heating up. You can wager on who wins the SEC, Big Ten, ACC, Big 12, and other conference tournaments before the NCAA bracket is fully revealed.
- Most Outstanding Player: This award goes to the best individual player in the country, and it’s another highly popular futures bet. Just remember, this award almost always goes to the best player on a team that makes a deep postseason run— so keep the quality of the team in mind, too.
One important catch: not all these NCAA Tournament futures appear at the same time. National championship odds is the only betting line that’s up the whole season. Conference winner and Most Outstanding Player award usually come online early in the regular season. But you won’t start seeing Final Four and Elite 8 bets until March starts drawing closer.
How To Read March Madness Futures Odds
At first glance, March Madness odds can look funny. That’s mostly because you’ll see a whole lot of plus signs and some gigantic numbers next to them. But trust us, making sense of March Madness futures lines is way easier than you probably think.
Here are a few examples to help you out. Say Florida has +600 odds to win the tourney. If you were to bet $100 on the Gators, then you’d profit the same $600 number. Easy enough, right?
The same exact thing applies to taking Kansas at +2500 odds. Here, your profit is a whopping $2,500 off a $100 bet that hits. The payout is much bigger because sportsbooks believe Kansas has a smaller chance of winning than Florida. See, we told you the upside futures bets can be massive!
At the end of the day, betting odds are probabilities. You can use our odds calculator to find out the exact implied probability of a bet hitting. The calculator will do the math for you, but here’s the basic formula:
Implied probability = 100 ÷ (odds + 100)
So Florida at +600 works out to roughly a 14.3-percent implied probability of winning the national championship. Kansas at +2500 comes out to about 3.8 percent.
This implied probability is why futures odds are often plus-money (+ sign) on many March Madness markets. We mean, you’re picking a tourney winner out of a 78-team field. That’s not easy at all, and the odds have to reflect that. Though other futures markets (Sweet 16, for example) aren’t as difficult, so odds adjust likewise.
As we said before, March Madness futures are almost always in flux. Sportsbooks are always accounting for new information. A team can rip off a huge winning streak and watch its price shorten fast. A star player can go down with an injury, and now his team’s odds have fallen off a cliff.
And here’s the thing: the odds you bet at are locked in that moment. If you grab a team at +1600 in January and they’re down to +700 by March, your ticket is still +1600. Of course, it works both ways. If that same team later drifts to +5000, tough luck, you’re stuck with the earlier number. Once you place the bet, that price is locked in.
When To Bet March Madness Futures
There’s no single “best” time to make a March Madness futures bet. We wish it were that easy, but it’s just not!
The reality is, bettors are constantly making a trade-off between better odds and better information. The earlier you bet, the less you know but the better the price can be. Wait longer, and now you do know more, but the odds aren’t as good.
Let’s run a little exercise to really drive this point home. Here are the pros and cons of making March Madness futures picks at different points in the year.
Before The Season: This is bargain-hunting season. Sportsbooks are trying to price hundreds of teams before anyone has played a meaningful game together. Nail a breakout team at +5000 here, and you could be holding a ticket worth +1200 a few months later. The downside? You’re betting in the (near) dark. Sure, you know the latest transfers and rookie class, but that’s just on paper. You haven’t actually seen how that plays out on the court.
During Conference Play: By January and February when conference play starts, the guessing game is largely over. You’ve seen teams play a good two months already, and you should have a good read on them. The secret here is trying to spot improvement before the odds fully catch up. Maybe a young roster finally starts clicking, or a transfer-heavy team suddenly figures out its rotation. That’s the type of thing you should be hunting for around here.
Before Conference Tournaments: Now you’re getting awfully close to the March Madness schedule release. We know much more about each team, but one gigantic unknown remains — the bracket. You can still bet a contender before Selection Sunday, but you’re doing so without knowing its seed, region, or potential road to the Final Four.
After Selection Sunday: This might be our favorite time to reassess March Madness futures picks. Now there are no hypothetical paths. You can see exactly who got a favorable region (and who didn’t). Of course, the catch is sportsbooks see the same bracket you do, so don’t expect them to leave obvious value sitting around for long. This is where it literally pays to bet early before lines mature.
During March Madness: Yep, futures betting continues even after the tournament starts. The field gets smaller with every round, and sportsbooks are adjusting on the spot. Still, new information matters. If a contender looks dominant while another barely escapes its first two games, you can update your bet accordingly.
March Madness Futures Betting Strategy
Let’s get to the reason you’re probably here: winning bets. Well, it’s not just going to happen on a regular basis if you “wing it.” No, no, no, you need a real and proven March Madness futures strategy to win.
There’s no one secret formula to beating futures markets. If there were, we’d all be retired already. But…there are ways to give yourself a much better shot than blindly picking teams off “vibes.” Here are five tips we think are absolute must-dos:
Shop Betting Lines Before
This one is painfully easy. Futures odds can and do vary a ton from sportsbook to sportsbook. This is different than game lines, which are usually identical across the board. Not futures though, and it’s on you to find value before putting money down.
Let’s use another example. Let’s say one site has Michigan at +1200 and another has +1500. You’d be crazy not to take the +1500 bet since the payout would be 25 percent better than +1200.
So take the extra 10 minutes to research and scour the different sportsbooks out there and bet where your money goes the furthest. Over the long run, this greatly changes your profits and losses.
Research, Research, And Research Some More
Don’t bet North Carolina just because it’s North Carolina (and Michael Jordan played there ages ago). Don’t bet Butler just because you remember their Cinderella team when you first started watching NCAA hoops.
Instead of relying on nostalgia or prestige, you should be studying the actual team in front of you. Returning production, transfers, coaching, injuries, schedule strength, recent form — all of this matters way more when picking bets.
Evaluate The Bracket Path
Once Selection Sunday hits, your research should change a little. Now you’re not just asking, “how good is this team?” You’re asking, “how realistic is their path to the Final Four or title game?”
A team can be fantastic, but get awfully unlucky with their bracket draw. Maybe they’re placed in a loaded region with two other top-five teams. Maybe their likely Sweet 16 opponent is a nightmare stylistic matchup. This stuff happens all the time, but you need to forecast it ahead of time.
Make Multiple Futures Bets
This is one of the few betting markets where spreading your money around can make a ton of sense because the odds are so high.
You don’t have to pick one team and marry the dang thing. Maybe you put $100 on Florida at +600, then $40 on Michigan at +1200 and another $25 on Arizona at +2200. You’ve now given yourself multiple ways to win while still keeping the larger payouts intact.
Just don’t go insane and bet half the field. At some point, you’re not diversifying anymore — you’re just incinerating your hard-earned money.
Manage Your Bankroll
Just like college teams are trying to survive the tournament round to round — you should be too.
Remember, when you’re putting money on a futures bet, you’re tying up those funds for as long as it takes to play out — maybe months. If you dump too much of your bankroll into one championship ticket, you’ve handcuffed yourself for the rest of the season.
We’d never risk a massive percentage of our bankroll on one single futures bet. Keep enough money available for regular-season games, conference tournaments, and March Madness itself.
One losing ticket should sting. It should NOT knock you out of the game entirely.
