Connor McDavid And The Oilers or Kings on Monday Night?

It's a Pacific Division showdown on Monday evening in Southern California as Connor McDavid and the Edmonton Oilers head to Los Angeles to face a familiar foe in the Kings. It's the second meeting of the season between the two, with LA winning the first. Edmonton is coming off a crushing OT loss to the defending champion Colorado Avalanche on Saturday at home. The Kings, on the other hand, dominated the Vegas Golden Knights over the weekend by a score of 5-1 behind a hat-trick from Kevin Fiala. Read on for the Oilers vs Kings picks.

Edmonton OilersN/A-101Ov 6.5 (-113)
Los Angeles KingsN/A-109Un 6.5 ('+102)

The odds are relatively even here. The Oilers come in at -101 on the moneyline, while the Kings sit at -109. The total is set at 6.5 goals. Edmonton has won three of the last four regular-season matchups against LA and of course beat them in the 2022 Playoffs as well.

Edmonton vs Los Angeles Preview

The Oilers made an epic run to the Western Conference Finals last season but haven't exactly replicated that type of success early on in 2022-23. Edmonton currently sits in the final playoff spot with a 21-17-3 record and owns a 4-4-2 record in their previous 10 contests. As per usual, they are an electric team in front of the goal but struggle to defend. The Oilers rank fourth in the NHL with 3.51 goals per game and allow 3.32 goals per night, which puts them 20th. By no surprise, McDavid is lighting up the league and is easily the best player around, collecting 76 points in just 41 outings. He's got 33 goals and 43 assists. Needless to say, the former first-overall pick is truly elite. Leon Draisatl (22 goals), Zach Hyman (20 goals), and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins (19 goals) round out the attack. Hyman was the leading catalyst the other night against the Avalanche, scoring twice in the loss. Stuart Skinner made 46 saves but was beaten by Cale Makar in the extra period. One positive sign for Monday's tilt is Edmonton's away record of 11-6-1. They play substantially better on the road.

It's been a solid campaign for the Kings, who occupy second in the Pacific and fourth in the West with a 23-14-6 record. While Los Angeles doesn't shine in any particular area, they're just a fundamentally sound team on both ends of the ice. The offense is very well-rounded, with six different players registering at least 11 goals this season. Gabriel Vilardi leads the way in terms of goals, scoring 16 times. But Fiala is the most impactful player on the roster compiling 13 goals and 29 assists for 42 points in 43 games played. As previously mentioned, he single-handedly willed the Kings to victory in Sin City with three goals, netting once in each period. Phoenix Copley made 20 saves in between the posts and will likely get the start again Monday over Jonathan Quick. In terms of recent play, LA is looking good, posting a 7-2-1 record in their last ten appearances. The Kings also thrive at Crypto.com Arena, going 12-7-2. This is the beginning of a four-game homestand, with the Sharks, Devils, and Stars visiting after Edmonton leaves town.

Oilers vs Kings Picks

The majority of the recent games between these two teams have been close. But I'm riding the Oilers here. I like their away record, and they will be extremely hungry to bounce back after such a heartbreaking loss to Colorado. Expect McDavid to shine and help Edmonton grab three more points against a team above them in the standings.
