Fight Preview

Mbilli might not be one of the top super middleweights in the world, but he's definitely a very solid boxer. The Cameroonian-born fighter represented France in the 2016 Olympics and has no shortage of experience. The 28-year-old is a perfect 24-0 in his career with 20 knockouts and notched a statement win to take the Continental belt with a third-round knockout of Ronny Landaeta back in 2021. Since then, he's retained the belt five times, beating quite a few impressive opponents along the way. That includes Nadjib Mohammedi, Ronald Ellis, and most recently, Colombian Carlos Gongora.

Mbille had a tough go in that bout but eventually beat Gongora via unanimous decision in the 10th round. Mbille fights out of the orthodox position and stands around 5 foot 8 with a reach of 72 inches. He's a very quick, yet powerful fighter with fantastic hands and has honestly taken out better opponents than Nicholson. That doesn't necessarily mean he'll win Saturday, but all signs point to it. It's also important to note that four of Mbilli's last six bouts were in Canada and he won all of them. It's a place where he evidently feels comfortable. Wearing down his opposition with body shots before eventually landing a finisher seems to be his recipe for success. This will be his fifth time retaining the belt if he can grab win No. 25.

Nicholson is a 10-year pro out of Laurel, Maryland who has a size advantage over Mbilli, standing at 6 feet. He's 26-5 in his career with 22 knockouts and just lost in his most recent bout to a two-division champion Demetrius Andrade back in January. Regardless, Nicholson's career has been respectable, even earning a spot on the US National Team. He's been boxing since he was a young child.

The American has a powerful punch as well but has shown inconsistency throughout his career. But after falling to Andrade, that will hopefully prepare him for another tough bout with Mbilli, another fantastic opponent. In fact, this match presents an opportunity for Nicholson to show he's worthy of a title shot in the near future. And to be brutally honest, he's going in as a massive underdog with no one expecting much of anything from him. Sometimes, that's a great position to be in. Nicholson has a very versatile style and can hurt Mbilli in a number of ways. Perhaps the Frenchman will finally meet his maker and lose a fight. We shall see on Saturday.

Christian Mbilli vs Demond Nicholson Picks

Obviously, the sportsbooks suggest this won't be close at all. But, when a fighter like Nicholson has absolutely nothing to lose and everything to gain, it can be dangerous. On the other hand, Mbilli is so experienced and has been on quite the roll in recent years. With the moneyline offering minimal value, take Mbilli to win by decision. Nicholson will keep it competitive and push his opponent to the absolute brink.
