Soon enough, everyone is going to find out who ends up winning the Georgia Governor race, and there's a lot of focus on plenty of candidates. This is also going to end up impacting Georgia betting news, as we all know just how much opposition there's been in recent years. That's why Georgia betting proponents should be hoping for Keisha Lance Bottoms to become Governor once the votes start to come in and things are made official.
It's no secret that Brian Kemp has been against legalization for quite some time. If anything, plenty of people are convinced that Kemp is a big reason why Georgia is one of only 11 states without any form of legal sports betting. However, Bottoms seems to be in support of trying to get things over the line to help bring in revenue for the state, while she's also open to other types of casino gambling as well. Because of this, her election would surely help get things over the line, right?
"Whoever wins (the Georgia Governor race) will inherit a legislature that has repeatedly failed to agree on gambling expansion, including whether voters must approve sports betting and how proceeds should be spent," reporter Ryan Butler wrote in a recent piece. "After more than two decades of Republican control, the General Assembly could see Democrats make sizable gains and potentially take one or both chambers."
When it comes to Bottoms, she even included a casino referendum that was included as part of her education agenda, according to Butler. This really tells us all that she's quite focused on making the betting dreams for people in the state a reality, as Bottoms understands the financial benefits that come with legal betting options for people. Come November, we'll find out who takes over in office for Kemp, but the latest push for legal betting could help get Bottoms some extra votes once voting day arrives.

Keisha Lance Bottoms has made it clear she's ready to support betting in Georgia
All of this is nothing new, as Keisha Lance Bottoms has made it clear she's ready to support betting in Georgia sooner rather than later. Take for example her comments in April. Before she was a finalist to take over as Governor, Bottoms went on record stating that there was a need for betting reform in the state. Because of that, plenty of citizens came out in support of her, which really wasn't a surprise. It will be interesting to see if her outlook on betting leads to a ton of more votes or not.
“It will bring about $300 million into this state that can help us expand education and this state, allow every town to have access to a pre-K education,” Bottoms said via her interview with Atlanta News First.
Bottoms understands how much revenue is on the table for Georgia as a whole if different kinds of betting is allowed. The opposition continues to make the argument that legal sports betting would increase the risk of gambling addiction, but it's important to remember that people are still finding ways to place bets.
With prediction markets being approved at a Federal level, that's the main outlet people are using for their betting needs. Of that money that's wagered, Georgia doesn't get a single dime, which is not fair. This is something Bottoms is quite aware of, which is why she's pushing for that to be flipped soon.
Georgia is missing out on a ton of NFL wagers right now
While this may not be the case next year, Georgia is missing out on a ton of NFL wagers right now. With the NFL betting season in full swing, people all across the state are keeping a close eye on the Atlanta Falcons. Despite the Falcons struggling a bit this year, there's still a ton of interest in the team because of the young talent on both sides of the ball.
On offense alone, running back Bijan Robinson is playing at an MVP level, while Drake London is one of the most exciting young wide receivers in the league. Michael Penix Jr. is a stud quarterback when he's at his best. Put all of this together and countless amounts of people are ready for the games whenever the Falcons are in action.
For now, people can't bet on the action unless they use the prediction markets, or use an off-shore account. Again, this is something Bottoms has her eyes on. There's no question whatsoever that NFL betting alone could bring in millions worth of tax revenue for the state. That's not the case this fall and winter, but hopefully things can change once 2027 gets here. The chances of that happening will only go up if Bottoms ends up getting elected.
