That's because leading up to the start of the new month, there are still lawsuits that have been filed, with everyone waiting to see what a judge will decide. For now, the assumption is that places like Kalshi and PolyMarket are going to be banned, but it still remains up in the air what the final call is going to be. It's important to remember here too that prediction markets are legal at a Federal level, which could complicate things here.

"Set to take effect in August, the statute makes it a felony to create, operate, manage or control a prediction market platform — effectively forcing these exchanges to exit the state or face charges backed by federal laws and regulation, Kalshi and Polymarket argued Minnesota lacks authority to override the Commodity Exchange Act — which grants the federal government exclusive jurisdiction over event contracts and prediction markets," Courthouse News Service wrote in a new report.

With serious consequences coming for people if they continue to operate this type of betting, it has plenty of bettors worried about the future in the state. For now, nothing is 100 percent certain, but plenty of signs are pointing to the prediction markets being no more in Minnesota. It will be interesting to see if a Federal Judge jumps in late to prevent this from happening, but things are unclear there.

Earlier in 2026, there was another effort to try and get things legalized, as it seemed like a strong sports betting bill had been presented.

This is why so many people have been reliant on the prediction markets, as it provided people with a way to get some of their bets in. However, those were limited to futures bets.

During this past NBA season, people surely wanted to bet big on the Minnesota Timberwolves, as Anthony Edwards had people pretty dang excited about this team going on a deep run. Instead of that happening, the Spurs won the Western Conference, and then the New York Knicks ended up winning it all. Unless things change in a big way by next year, another hoops season will come and go without legal NBA betting options for people in Minnesota.
