next coach fired picks

Two NHL head coaches have lost their job during the 2025-26 season. Veteran bench boss Rick Bowness took over for Dean Evason on Jan. 13 and promptly led the Blue Jackets on a seven-game winning streak. And just yesterday, the Los Angeles Kings canned Jim Hiller in favor of D.J. Smith in hopes of making a playoff push.

Who will be next coach fired? let's take a look at the latest futures and make our picks. Odds are subject to change.

There are plenty of how-to tips in our handy sports betting guide.

Huska ahead of the pack

Ryan Huska (+250) is slightly above .500 (103-95-26) in almost three full years with the Flames. Calgary currently has the fourth-fewest points in the league, but they extended Huska through the 2027-28 season just last summer. Given that everyone in Cowtown knew this was a rebuilding year, the 50-year-old Pierre McGuire lookalike should survive the campaign.

Others on the chopping block

Travis Green (+300) helped secure the Senators a playoff spot last year, but his club is currently five points back of Boston for the final Wild Card spot in a crowded Eastern Conference. Even if they miss the postseason, it's hard to blame Green for the Linus Ullmark drama. Captain Brady Tkachuk also missed the first month of the campaign following thumb surgery.

Sheldon Keefe (+400) won't get axed for the remainder of the year. There's simply no point with the Devils in second-last place in the East. However, there are rumors that New Jersey will move on from General Manager Tom Fitzgerald in the offseason following a disappointing season. That could lead to a Keefe culling this summer.

Offseason firings

Scott Arniel (+600) led the Jets to a league-best 56-22-4 record in the 2024-25 regular season. This year hasn't gone as well, to say the least. Winnipeg has the sixth-worst record (23-26-10) in all of hockey. In a "what have you done for me lately" world, Arniel could be relieved of his duties in a few months.

Jim Montgomery (+800) led St. Louis to the playoffs last year after being shown the door by Boston, but his Blues are buried in second-last in the NHL. Montgomery is almost certainly a goner in the offseason.

Next NHL Head Coach Fired Picks

With a quarter of the season to go, we don't think any more coaches will be sent to the firing squad this season. That means there's a lot of value in betting on guys like Arniel and Montgomery, who may not survive the summer.

Two wonderful wagers that hit that exact criteria are Craig Berube (+1200) of the soon-to-be-golfing Maple Leafs and Adam Foote (+1600), whose Canucks are dead-last in the league with a miserable 43 points.
