Carolina Hurricanes-196-200-196
Arizona Coyotes+174+170+171

The Hurricanes are favored at -196 odds on Friday for an implied win probability of 66.22%. The Coyotes come back at +174 and have a 36.50% chance of coming out victorious in this one. Carolina has won seven of the last eight meetings with Arizona, outscoring them 9-2 across the previous two matchups. That could be a trend to keep in mind when betting on this contest.

Hurricanes Looking Good

Carolina was on the verge of making the Stanley Cup last season and in 2023-24, they look like a legitimate contender once again. The Canes are second in the competitive Metropolitan Division with 65 points and a 30-17-5 record, just eight points behind the first-place New York Rangers. They've gone 6-4-0 in their last 10 outings and had won two in a row against the Avalanche and Devils before the loss to the Stars. Carolina is a rather solid group on both ends of the ice, ranking 11th in goals scored and 12th in goals allowed.

Sebastian Aho is the leading man this season, scoring 19 goals and tallying 38 assists. Seth Jarvis has also tallied 41 points, while the likes of Brent Burns, Andrei Svechnikov, and Michael Bunting have all surpassed the 30-point mark, too. In total, there are 11 different players with a minimum of 22 points on this roster. Talk about balance. This is exactly why the Hurricanes are seen as a serious threat in the Eastern Conference.

The game vs Dallas was a tough one though, losing by two goals. Carolina went into the third tied 2-2 but the Stars scored two unanswered to run out with the victory. Jordan Staal and Jesper Fast found the back of the net for the Canes. They outshot Dallas 34-23 but it didn't matter in the end. Friday's tilt is the second of a three-game road trip for the Hurricanes, who are only 13-11-1 away from home. Regardless, Arizona is a team they should comfortably beat without any issues.

Tough Year For Arizona

The Coyotes truly seem to be horrendous every season and it's no different this year. They're in the midst of a seven-game losing streak and now sit at 23-25-4 on the campaign, which puts them in seventh place in the Central Division. There are no signs of things turning around anytime soon. Arizona is also only 2-7-1 in their last 10 appearances. A tough time to be a Yotes fan.

Unfortunately, things aren't getting any easier, either. The Coyotes face the Hurricanes, Avalanche, Oilers, Maple Leafs, and Jets in their next five games. That's a ridiculously difficult schedule, which means the losing ways could very well continue. Arizona isn't thriving in any area, scoring only 2.9 goals per night and allowing 3.13 goals per contest, which both put them towards the bottom of the NHL. About the only clear bright spot in the desert is Clayton Keller, who has 21 goals and 28 assists in 52 contests in 2023-24. He leads the team. Overall, the Yotes only have five scorers in double digits. That definitely puts their struggles into perspective.

The Wild manhandled Arizona on Wednesday evening, scoring once in each period en route to the win. Logan Cooley had the lone goal for the Coyotes here. Arizona managed only 26 shots on target compared to 43 for Minnesota. In fact, this squad is 30th in the league in shots on target. They're simply not creating enough opportunities and it shows in the numbers. Given their track record against Carolina, this could be another loss on Friday.

Hurricanes vs Coyotes Picks

To me, this is an obvious pick. Take the Hurricanes moneyline with confidence. I fully believe they will grab a convincing win in this one and improve their record.
