So, who has the edge in Dan Ige vs. Lerone Murphy, a battle of two ultra-filled featherweight fighters? And what about the other two remaining main-card showdowns? To the UFC betting picks machine!
Can Lerone Murphy Continue His Rise Up UFC Featherweight Ranks with Win Over Dan Ige?
Lerone Murphy (-175) enters as the favorite over Dan Ige (+150) despite not having as many fights under his belt in the past calendar year. This will be Murphy’s second fight of 2024. His last one came at a UFC Fight Night in May against Edson Barboza. Meanwhile, Dan Ige is taking on his third matchup of the year. His last one came at UFC 303 in June, where he lost by knockout on a punch from Andre Fili.
Anyone who has been tracking Murphy’s rise ahead of UFC 308 will not be surprised by these betting lines. Through 15 career matches, he sports a 14-0-1 record. Most impressively, his victories have come in a wide variety of manners—submissions, KOs, TKOs, decisions, etc. Though Lerone Murphy is best known for his precision and power when striking, he has also displayed exceptional footwork and takedown tactics. In fact, the 33-year-old is quickly cementing himself as one of the best all-around fighters in the featherweight division.
Granted, Dan Ige is arguably Murphy’s toughest task yet. He sports equal power on strikes and plays at a similarly exhaustive pace.
Ultimately, however, we believe that Murphy is faster and more versatile. If his takedown defense can hold up, this may be a fight he doesn’t allow to make it to a decision.
Aleksander Rakic Looks to Right the Ship at UFC 308 vs. Magomed Ankalaev
Aleksandar Rakic (+285) enters UFC 30 as the heavy underdog vs. Magomed Ankalaev (-360). Both the betting public and linemakers seem concerned about him dropping consecutive matches and not taking many fights for a couple of years.
Rakic fell to Jan Blacowicz at a UFC Fight Night in May 2022 and then didn’t hit the octagon again until UFC 300 in April 2024—nearly two years later. Both fights ended in knockout losses.
Ankalaev, on the other hand, will arrive at UFC 308 having lost just once for his career (all the way back in March 2018!). Yes, he has one draw and a no contest under his belt during this span. But those still aren’t losses.
Many have pointed out that Rakic has looked good at different stages of his losses. He also had a tough pull at UFC 300 following his injury layoff. But that may not do him much good here. Rakic is not what we would call a technical fighter, and we have questions about his stamina following his time away. While he has appeared on point in each of his past two bouts, he invariably faded as the clock ticked on.
Shara Magomedov Puts Perfect Record on the Line Against Armen Petrosyan
Depending on whom you are speaking with, Shara Megomedov (-180) is either on the fast track to a middleweight title shot or someone who continues to be overhyped by commentators. Clarity may await us all at UFC 308, as he gets set to take on Armen Petrosyan (+155).
To be fair, it is easy to get caught up in the Megomedov hype. Not only does the human “Bullet” sport a perfect 14-0-0 record, but he has consistently delivered some filthy kicking combinations.
At the same time, skepticism is fair. Magomedov has some power, but not a ton. He also isn’t known for ending fights early. He has yet to win by submission, according to UFC Stats, and even his knockouts tend to come in the later stages of his fights.
Yet, Petrosyan is up against similar limitations. He has yet to win by submission, and so much of his success is predicated on staunch striking defense. It bodes well for “Superman” that Magomedov still seems limited as a wrestler. But this is not someone who looked all that convincing during his last fight in February, which he dropped by submission in Round 1 to Rodolfo Vieira.
