In what has been a battle for months now, it seems like some clarity could be coming soon for Washington betting. That's because for a little while now, the state has been battling with prediction markets to try and get things brought to a stop. Well, things have reached a new level and Washington State has taken a huge step in banning Kalshi from operating in the state moving forward. Could a final decision come soon?

According to a new report from KOMO 4 News in Seattle, a judge in King County has approved a temporary injunction on Kalshi, which would bring to a stop bets being made in the state. It has been reported that a final decision will come on Aug. 5. If that holds up in court, it means that no bets on Kalshi would be permitted in Washington moving forward, which would be monumental.

"The court is expected to issue a final order on Aug. 5 that would prohibit Kalshi from continuing to violate Washington law," KOMO 4 wrote in its new piece detailing things. "The attorney general’s office said the schedule gives Kalshi and the state time to confer on the terms of the injunction and provide additional briefing to the court about appropriate remedies."

As you can see, there's still time for Kalshi to try and get things reversed, while lawmakers in Washington are still pushing to make sure things get pushed over the line. It will be interesting to see which final decision comes on August 5, but it has been made clear that lawmakers are ready to do whatever is needed to make sure things get finalized here. Only time will tell what the final decision will end up being.

It goes without saying, but prediction markets thrived in Washington State during the World Cup, as plenty of games were played in Seattle. While individual contests weren't bet on, it just added to the interest in the futures bets for the World Cup, which eventually led to Spain winning it all. People were invested in the USA, though, including the Round of 16 game vs. Belgium.

That matchup was played at Lumen Field, with people in Washington State excited to see what the team could get done. Unfortunately, a lopsided loss was posted, but that didn't take away from the overall interest people had in the sports throughout the tournament. And with that, it opened the door for a lot of futures bets to be placed through the prediction markets.

Now, the worry is that this type of betting on soccer will only continue moving forward. While online sports betting is legal in Washington, it's important to remember that people can only place online bets when they're at an authorized casino in the state. This limits the options, but with prediction markets, you're able to place some of those similar bets either at home or on the go.

This is something that officials know all about, as things are clearly in violation of the state's online gambling laws. This is why this new effort is being put together to make sure Kalshi doesn't keep giving people in Washington the opportunity to make these bets. Again, we'll find out in early August if things end up being stopped or not, but things appear to be moving in that direction.

Looking at trends a bit more closely, it looks like MLB betting is strong in Washington despite the Mariners being inconsistent thus far this season. As of this writing, Seattle is 51-50 on the year, which no one was expecting at this point after the All-Star break. Frustration is growing with manager Dan Wilson.

However, the Mariners still remain in first place of the AL West standings, with Seattle and Texas in a close battle for the top spot. That race for the division title figures to remain quite close for the rest of the campaign, as the Rangers won't go down without a fight.

Having said all of that, the postseason is around the corner and you've got to figure that MLB betting is only going to grow in Washington once things get underway there. The Mariners have never been to the World Series and they were one win away from winning the ALCS last year. They're motivated to try and get over the hump, with people ready to bet big on that too.
