This is not good at all. That's got to be what people all over the state of Wisconsin are thinking right now, as while legal online sports betting arrived earlier this year thanks to Governor Tony Evers, things are yet to be launched. Well, it looks like things are going to be delayed there a bit, which is not good at all. According to new reports, the Wisconsin tribes are facing a lawsuit to prevent online sports betting from launching in the near future.
That's right, just recently, the lawsuit was filed after it was alleged that this new deal to launch sports betting in the state is breaking several laws. That's what The Brown County Taxpayers Association is stating, as they're working overtime to make sure that online sports betting doesn't come to fruition. It will be interesting to see if things are given the green light here or not, but the fact that the BCTA has a lawsuit in place sure complicates things.
"Eight of the state's Native American tribes have asked a court to dismiss a lawsuit challenging their ability to offer online sports betting," FOX 11 News said in a recent report. "The Brown County Taxpayers Association filed suit in Waukesha County, arguing Act 247 violated the state Constitution and its 1993 amendment authorizing certain forms of gambling."
Because of this lawsuit, people in Wisconsin continue to wait on updates, as people are ready for online sportsbooks to arrive. However, this lawsuit looming for Evers and other officials, it's pushing back when things will end up arriving. Only time will tell if there's a launch by the end of the year, but right now things aren't looking too great there.
Wisconsin originally made online sports betting legal in April
What makes this all the more frustrating is that Wisconsin originally made online sports betting legal in April, with Evers getting things over the line then. There was a ton of excitement when that happened, as it seemed like sports fans in the state would no longer have to rely on prediction markets for their online needs. At the time of the announcement too, Ever was incredibly happy to get this done, as he knew about the financial ramifications for things as well.
"The real work begins today," Evers said in a statement when the law passed back in April. "Each of the 11 Tribes must now work diligently-and together-to shape the future of sports betting in Wisconsin. An approach that exacerbates long-standing inequalities among Tribal Nations is not good for Wisconsinites or Wisconsin. I will not entertain it as governor."
Since that news dropped, however, things have been quite complicated and nothing but negative updates have arrived. Evers is still working tirelessly to get this fixed soon, but things remain a bit confusing. This past summer, the state missed out on a ton of potential sports betting tax revenue during the baseball season, and now more of the same is here with no NFL betting to take advantage of. This has all been a big swing and a miss.
Watch this once then watch it again. And again. And again. And again.
You get it. https://t.co/gTC2ulpaXw

Wisconsin citizens can continue to make in-person wagers for their sports betting needs
Despite the issues with the online push, don't forget that Wisconsin citizens can continue to make in-person wagers for their sports betting needs. The timing of that is perfect, as we're now entering Week 7 of the NFL betting season. For Wisconsin betting alone, there's always going to be plenty of eyes on the Green Bay Packers.
In Week 6, the Packers were able to take care of business against Dak Prescott and the Dallas Cowboys. Now this weekend, Jordan Love and the rest of his teammates will be hoping to take down the Detroit Lions. The season debut will be on the way for running back Jordan Jacobs, who was previously suspended by the NFL.
Now, Jacobs is going to want to make a bit of a splash with the ball back in his hands, and people will be ready to check the NFL prop bets for Jacobs wagers. He's a stud running back, but now we've got to wait and see how long it will take him to get acclimated once again with the offense. Only time will tell if he can play well or not, but countless eyes are going to be on him. And people are also going to be ready to place wagers in Week 7 too. However, only in-person wagers will be allowed for that until good news comes in for Evers with the lawsuit.
