2021 WNBA Draft: Betting Odds and Predictions for Top Picks and Props

2021 WNBA Draft: Betting Odds and Predictions for Top Picks and Props

The coronavirus pandemic won’t stop the WNBA from holding their 2020 draft. In fact, they’ll be the first major professional sport to experiment with a virtual prospect pageant. And to answer your question, yes, you can absolutely bet on the draft. We’ve got the best odds and picks to help you make some money.

Certain WNBA 2020 draft picks are a no-brainer. Everyone and their mother, for instance, know that Sabrina Ionescu, out of Oregon, will be going first overall. With that in mind, here are the players most likely to go at No. 2, courtesy BetOnline

  • Satou Sabally (-300)
  • Lauren Cox (+200)
  • The Field (+1000)

Betting on the outcome of basketball drafts is never a given. Things can change. This logic should hold true for your WNBA draft picks as well. Luckily, our in-depth guide will answer all the most pressing questions:

  • Will Sabrina Ionescu really go No. 1?
  • Who will be selected at No. 2?
  • Who will be selected at No. 4?
  • How many Oregon Ducks will be drafted?
  • Other WNBA Draft Picks for 2020

2020 WNBA Draft Betting Breakdown

Will Sabrina Ionescu be selected No. 1 Overall?

  • Yes (-100000)
  • No (+2000)

The odds for this prop bet say it all. Sabrina Ionescu is going to the New York Liberty with the No. 1 pick. End of story. Period. Finito.

Still, if you like taking risks, or if you think for some reason Satou Sabally or Lauren Cox will get the nod from New York, you'll be handsomely rewarded in the event of a victory.

OSB Prediction: Yes (-100000)

Betting Odds for No. 2 Pick

  • Satou Sabally (-300)
  • Lauren Cox (+200)
  • The Field (+1000)

Predicting the No. 2 pick of the 2020 WNBA draft isn't as much of a gimme

Oddsmakers are anticipating otherwise, awarding heavy overdog status to Sabally. That's not too far off base. The Dallas Wings have needs at almost every position, and Sabally is a hyper-efficient wing who can score off the dribble. She averaged 16.9 points while putting down 41.6 percent of her three-pointers at Oregon.

At the same time, forecasting what the Wings will do isn't that simple. They have four picks in the first round alone. They could trade this selection away or use it to roll the dice on a two-way player like Cox, who can both shoot and defend, or Chennedy Carter, a point guard who can create her own looks and set the table for others.

Come join us out on the limb. We promise it's sturdier than you think.

OSB Prediction: Lauren Cox (+200)

Betting Odds for No. 4 Pick

  • Chennedy Carter (-200)
  • Megan Walker (+225)
  • Lauren Cox (+800)
  • The Field (+900)

There's a lot of money to be made if you think Cox slips to the Atlanta Dream at No. 4. We're clearly not buying that scenario.

Carter is a worthy favourite in this spot, if only because the Dream needs some new blood at the point guard spot, and because the Wings (No. 2) and Indiana Fever (No. 3), respectively, are supposed to target forwards with their selections.

OSB Prediction: Chennedy Carter (-200)

How Many Oregon Ducks Will Go in the Top 5?

  • Two (-300)
  • Three or more (+200)
  • One (+1600)
  • Zero (+10000)

Save yourself some time and money: Don't bother looking at the "Zero" and "One" options. At least two Ducks, Ionescu and Sabally, are going in the top five.

Whether you should bet on a third Oregon player joining them is a tough call—but not too tough. Ruthy Hebard is the next most likely option, and while she has the versatility to switch between power forward and center, very few teams in the top five need a big.

OSB Prediction: Two (-300)

Total Forwards Drafted in Round 1

  • Under 7.5 (-200)
  • Over 7.5 (+150)

Most bettors will be hesitant to take the over here. The first round is only 12 picks deep, and you'd need eight forwards to go off the board to hit the over.

That doesn't scare us.

The first two picks of the draft are expected to be forwards, and Dallas is also expected to use at least three of its four selections on forwards themselves. With so many teams in the latter half of the first round in need of wings and help on the frontline, there's a better-than-good chance eight forwards come off the board in a hurry.

OSB Prediction: Over 7.5 (+150)

Total Guards Drafted in Round 1

  • Under 7.5 (-200)
  • Over 7.5 (+150)

This is a default pick. Even if the first round doesn't hit the over on forwards, it most definitely isn't going to hit the over on guards.

Barring an unforeseen trade (or three), no fewer than six forwards are locks to be taken with the first 12 picks. That, by extension, kills the chance of this prop clearing the over.

OSB Prediction: Under 7.5 (-200)
