Parity has defined the 2025/26 NHL season with only a handful of points separating playoff clubs from lottery teams. However, at the midway point of the year, a few franchises look hopelessly lost.

Canucks favored to finish last
Vancouver (+225) is the chalk pick to finish with the worst regular season record in the NHL. While former head coach Rick Tocchet is off to a flying start in Philadelphia, the Canucks (16-21-6) sit near the bottom of the Western Conference.
Centers J.T. Miller and Bo Horvat were shipped out in previous seasons. And Elias Pettersson looks like he could be next with only 11 goals and 15 assists in 34 games this season.

Other bottom feeders
Chicago (+300) currently has five teams under them in the standings. However, the franchise has finished in the bottom-three in each of the past three seasons so they're proven tankers. With budding superstar Connor Bedard set to return to the lineup following a month-long injury absence, the Blackhawks should only get better.
St. Louis (+500) has the worst goal differential (-43) in hockey right now. And while the Blues are seven points ahead of the Jets, they've played three more games.
Calgary (+650) has opened January with three straight losses. After starring for Team Canada at the World Juniors, at least defenseman Zayne Parekh offers Flames fans some hope for the future.
Best longshots to place dead last
Winnipeg (+750) is available at long odds considering they have the fewest points (35) in the NHL and have lost 10 consecutive games (0-6-4). While three-time Vezina Award winner Connor Hellebuyck missed three weeks following arthroscopic knee surgery, his return hasn't saved the Jets from their longest losing streak since moving to Winnipeg from Atlanta in 2011.
Nashville (+2200) is sitting with a respectable .500 record (19-19-4) but the Predators' veteran-laden roster doesn't offer much hope for the future. Once 600-goal man Steven Stamkos cools down from a recent hot stretch that saw him score 10 goals in 10 games, things could end poorly in Music City.
After the Blackhawks scored their 7th of the game, Jim Montgomery tried to pull Jordan Binnington for Joel Hofer...
But Binnington appeared to refuse to come off the ice, and Hofer was hiding down the tunnel to the Blues' locker room? 😭😅 pic.twitter.com/j2V7q5bze4

2026 NHL Worst Regular Season Record Picks
With almost two months until the March 6th NHL trade deadline, there's a lot of hockey to be played before teams identify themselves as buyers or sellers.
