Giro d' Italia Odds

The Giro d’Italia or the Tour of Italy is one of the largest professional bicycle races and the first of the three Grand Tour races. The annual multiple-stage race is primarily held in Italy, with occasional routes through neighbouring countries. The three-week tour is the oldest of the three Grand Tours, with the first Giro d’Italia being held in 1909. The below odds were last updated on April 3, 2024:

With 103 editions of the Giro d’Italia in the record book, which is held annually with the exception of the two World Wars, we are lucky that the 104th will indeed occur in 2021. Regularly, the Giro d’Italia is held in May and June each year.

The route changes each year, but the format of the race remains the same with the two time-trials and the passage through the Alps and Dolomites. Since the 1960’s the departure location changes each year and finishes in cities such as Verona, Brescia, Trieste, Turin, and Rome are more frequent year after year.

Each Giro d’Italia tour, riders complete stages – the rider’s times are compounded with their previous stage times. The rider with the lowest finishing time is the leader of the race and wears a pink jersey.

There are other skill contests within the tour, including the points classification for the sprinters, mountain classification for the climbers, young rider classification for those under 25 years old, and team classifications.

With such a renowned and historical tour, it’s quite obvious that sportsbooks jump at the chance of offering cycling odds for the Giro d’Italia. It is common for the winner of the previous year’s Giro d’Italia to be at the top of the odds board or at least near the top – and we have Richard Carapaz tied for first with +250. Vincenzo Nibali is a multiple Giro d’Italia champion and will be a good rider to keep an eye on.

This includes a list of the riders participating, with the riders that are most likely to win at the top. Futures have higher odds than a regular bet because it’s a much riskier bet to place as there are so many different outcomes that could occur.

If you feel that Jakob Fuglsang is a good choice you could get some great value at +600, rather than picking Carapaz who is at the top of the oddsboard at +250. A $100 wager on Fuglsang would pay out $700, while a $100 wager on Carapaz would only pay out $350.

As soon as an event is announced, you can likely find Giro d’Italia futures and place your wagers months in advance and find some real value – if you choose correctly of course.

Top 3 Finish

The top three finish wager allows a small margin of error if you aren’t sure that your favorite cyclist will win the GC (general classification) outright wager. If you aren’t sure if they’ll win overall, but could do very well at the Giro d’Italia and may place in the top three, you can place that wager with reduced odds. This can be a fantastic option as your rider only has to place in the top three for your bet to cash.

Top 10 Finish

This Giro d’Italia betting type is the same as the top three finish above, but you get even more reduced odds and your rider just has to place within the top ten.

Stage Betting

You can bet on the top rider for each stage of the tour, as it occurs in multiple stages. Some riders excel in certain routes or terrains so it can be a great value (not to mention more entertaining) to bet on the stages of the Giro d’Italia. Each stage will have odds, so it makes it easier if you know the rider’s style. If a rider is a climber, and better in mountain terrain – they’d be a great pick for the stage that includes the passage through the Alps.
