This Friday sees the start of the 2022 Tour de France, and with Tadej Pogačar going for a third successive win, we are going to look at the chances of Ineos Grenadiers upsetting the odds and unseating the dominant Slovenian.
The latest cycling betting odds from BetOnline have Pogačar as a near-betting certainty. The online sportsbook has the Slovenian at just -140 to complete his third win in three years.
BetOnline believes Pogačar’s biggest threat is Jonas Vingegaard from Team Jumbo-Visma, the Dane is +500. Following Vingegaard is his Jumbo-Visma teammate Primož Roglič. Roglič is +550 to win his first Tour de France and add that to his already impressive collection of three Vuelta a España wins.
They are the big three riders expected to take the top 3 places in General Classification. But what about Ineos Grenadiers?
Can Ineos Grenadiers Upset The Odds in 2022 Tour de France?
Well, the Grenadiers are already without the injured Egan Bernal, who would have been leading the team. In his absence, team principal, Dave Brailsford has put together a three-pronged attack to try and gatecrash the winner's podium.
All three of Geraint Thomas, Dani Martinez, and Adam Yates are regarded as contenders by team principal Brailsford and his deputy Rod Ellingworth. But a quick look at the latest Tour de France betting odds below shows that the top online sportsbooks might not share the duo's view.

BetOnline makes 2018 winner Thomas their fourth favorite at +2500. That’s a long way outside of the top 3 in the betting and suggests they don’t rate his chances very highly.
As for the other two Grenadiers riders, Dani Martinez is +4000 and Adam Yates is +8000.
Geraint Thomas is being talked up though. As we’ve mentioned, the Welshman won this race in 2018, and he has just recently won the Tour de Suisse. This is without double the strongest Thomas has looked since winning four years ago.
Former winner and now TV pundit, Bradley Wiggins is on the record stating that Thomas is very underrated and is a contender for a podium finish at this year’s tour.
Staying out of trouble will be key for Thomas. Last season his tour effectively ended on Stage 3, when he dislocated his shoulder in a nasty crash. The Welshman did ride on but dropped out of the race after falling out of contention following a grueling day in the Alps on Stage 8.
Elsewhere, Daniel Martinez has also been in good form this year. The Columbian won the Tour de Basque Country back in April. And in Adam Yates, Ineos has a proven performer who has won stages at grand tours and numerous races across the years.

Which Rider Will Lead Ineos Grenadiers?
Dave Brailsford has form for allowing the race to develop before deciding which rider to back in the General Classification. This was perfectly illustrated when Thomas won in 2018, beating then-teammate and defending champion Chris Froome.
The chances are Brailsford will adopt that approach this year and will decide after the first couple of mountain stages which rider looks the strongest, and with that, decide who merits the role of team leader.
Until that is known, the odds on all three guys are that long, that they are well worth a small wager.

2022 Tour de France; All You Need To Know
This year’s tour gets underway on Saturday, July 1st, with the Grand Depart taking place in Copenhagen, Denmark. Don’t be alarmed by that, it’s a tradition that the Tour de France always starts in a country outside of France.
This year’s race has 21 stages and covers a distance of 3,328km (2,068 miles). It will consist of 6 mountain stages, 6 flat stages, and 7 hilly stages. Also included will be two individual time trials.
It will be the 109th edition of the race, and there will be 6 classification awards available. The six classifications are:-

Notable absentees this year include Mark Cavendish, Julian Alaphilippe, and the previously mentioned Egan Bernal.
The absence of Cavendish was expected, with his QuickStep-AlphaVinyl team preferring to back sprinter Fabio Jakobsen instead. Cavendish is named as a reserve.
It’s a blow, if not unexpected for the British rider. Cavendish is currently the joint leader in tour stage wins, he sits on 34 wins with Eddy Merckx, and at 37 years of age, may never get another chance to beat the record. Although, only a fool would write Cavendish off.
As for Alaphilippe, he has struggled for form and QuickStep opted to leave him out this year.
