Ready or not, here come our late-season World Series betting superlatives. From the favorites in the American League and National League to the best-value options and worst-value propositions, we’ve got a piping hot batch of takes to release.

To keep things interesting, we have provided a confidence meter on each selection to show much faith we have in the pick. This will be evaluated on a scale of 0 to 10, with 10 representing the utmost confidence.

National League Favorite: Los Angeles Dodgers (+170)

Confidence Meter: 8.8

Frankly, an 8.8-out-of-10 feels low. The Dodgers just print World Series appearances (and victories!) at this point. Still, even though they are welcoming back Edwin Diaz, Blake Snell and Enrique Hernandez from extended absences, the health of Shohei Ohtani’s pitching arm has us shook.

If MLB trade rumors were any indication, it has the Dodgers shook as well. On top of that, their relief pitching ranks 17th in wins above replacement player. So any concerns amid the ranks of the starters is a big deal.

Then again, we are smart enough not to overthink it. The Dodgers are not infallible. But they’re as close as Major League Baseball gets to it.

American League Favorite: New York Yankees (+550)

Confidence Meter: 6.7

Between a spotty record at Yankee Stadium, another potential Aaron Judge injury and inconsistent hitting with runners in scoring position, the Bronx Bombers have more than a couple of red flags for us to consider. Heck, at this writing, they are not even leading the AL East.

Still, despite this team’s various issues, they have all the vitals of a powerhouse. Consider where they rank in wins above replacement relative to the rest of the league:

• Starting Pitchers: 6th
• Relief Pitchers: 3rd
• Non-Pitchers: 8th

This balance beats every other squad up for consideration in the American League. For now, anyway.

Best World Series Value Pick: Boston Red Sox (+2200)

Confidence Meter: 7.2

The Boston Red Sox’s World Series appeal is dimmed by playing in the same division as the Yankees and Rays. They also have some concerns in the infield, as well as on the pitching staff.

With all of that said, Boston’s offense could be on the come-up. Non-pitchers rank third in wins above replacement, and they have seen an uptick in their on-base-plus-slugging percentage over the past few weeks.

Worst Value World Series Pick: Philadelphia Phillies (+1700)

Confidence Level: 9.9999

Look, we don’t want to criticize anyone, but betting on the Phillies feels akin to setting money on fire at this point.

Yes, they have a winning record. But 17-to-1 odds are not nearly appealing enough to overlook the concerns.

Philadelphia has a negative run differential, and more critically, ranks second to last in the entire league in adjusted on-base-plus-slugging percentage. That means it places lower than the New York Mets!

Until or unless they dip down into +2500 territory, we recommend steering clear.

Dark Horse World Series Pick to Monitor: Washington Nationals (+40000)

Confidence Level: 5.3

Investing in the Washington Nationals’ World Series odds is not for the faint of heart. They are currently on the outside looking in at the National League Wild Card and struggling to sustain a .500 record.

But if you want a high-upside dark-horse pick, a team that ranks second in the entire league in adjusted on-base-plus-slugging percentage certainly fits the bill.

MLB MVP Watch: Both races are wide open

Remember when it looked like Aaron Judge (AL) and Shohei Ohtani (NL) would run away with MLB MVPs?

Well, injuries to both have changed just about everything. Judge has fallen out of AL consideration, while Ohtani’s hold on the top NL spot is more tenuous than ever.

Let’s have a gander at the top-five candidates in each league, beginning with the AL:

Yordan Alvarez is officially inching into heavy-favorite territory. But if the Rays hold off the Yankees in the AL East, you stand to get excellent value out of Junio Caminero odds.

Once upon a time, Ohtani was a -1600 to win his fifth MVP. If he stays healthy for the rest of the year, he’ll probably close out the race.

That’s nevertheless a mighty big if. So much of his appeal is rooted in his ability to pitch. That’s no longer a given. For our money, if it’s not going to be him, we love James Wood at +2800. He is a huge reason why Washington’s offense has become a borderline powerhouse.
