Tennessee vs Syracuse Bets Go Simple
Tennessee vs Syracuse Bets go simple on Monday afternoon. So, what happened with Tennessee and Syracuse in the last week? Both teams stayed undefeated. Syracuse had a bit more of a challenge. The Orangemen had outscored their three opponents by an average of nine points per game. All three contests were at home and their last one was a squeaker against Colgate from the Patriot Conference. That four-point win tilted a few books heading into the week.
Next, there is Tennessee. The Volunteers are ranked inside the Top 10 after a 25-11 campaign last seen. Yes, the Volunteers made the Sweet 16 after dispatching Louisville and Duke only to lose to Florida Atlantic. Now, Tennessee is 3-0 to start this season while averaging more than 80 points a game. Their biggest win was a ten-point road conquest of Wisconsin on November 10th. Can the Volunteers win big in a game where they are huge favorites?
Let's tackle this Monday matinee contest. Also, we take some looks at how the Volunteers and Orangemen match up along with a few predictions.
Rick Barnes Feels Little Pressure At The Maui Invitational
Rick Barnes feels little pressure at the Maui Invitational. Frankly, the Tennessee coach has to be pretty confident going into this game against Syracuse. Adrian Autry has done a nice job to get the Orangemen off to a 3-0 start. The Orangemen are a young team lead by a trio of Sophomores headlined by Judah Mintz. Mintz leads Syracuse with 23 points per game but has not faced a defense like the Volunteers. Tennessee rode that intensity into a lot of success over the past couple of seasons.
The other thing Tenneseee knows is that they allow 57.7 points per game which ranks 18th in the nation. No one should be surprised here. The Upper Classmen of the Volunteers lead the way. Dalton Knecht averages nearly 20 points a game. The inevitable is what happens when some of these star players begin playing 30+ minutes a night. It begins during these tournaments and invitationals.
Now, there are quite a few reasons why Tennessee is favored here. For one, the quality of opposition, the experience that the Volunteers have along with their leadership, a veteran coach like Rick Barnes, and yes that road win at Wisconsin. The expectations for Tennessee may be even higher than the previous few campaigns. Even with the SEC being a little tougher, pundits tend to believe the Volunteers can fare well in this invitational among the palm trees.
Again, Tennessee features three players from the Top 100 GSCI and that does not include Knecht or Jordan Gainey. If there is one matchup which looms big in this game, it is the youthful guards of Syracuse versus that leadership of Tennessee. The Volunteers expect to have the advantage there.
Tennessee Is Laying A Whopping 14 Points?
So, what about Tennessee laying a whopping 14 points? The Tennessee vs Syracuse bets wonder about this too a little. Honestly, neutral-site games like this can be a little weird. Also, this game is being played in the morning over in Hawaii. Yes, both teams have had time to practice. That is not an excuse. However, game play is game play. One cannot quite simulate that pace. Again, this is where the Volunteers figure to have an edge.
Jonas Aidoo could be a real wildcard here for Tennessee. The 6-foot-11 forward is generously listed at about 230 pounds. Most believe him to be closer to 240 or 250. He plays physical and that may be something the Orangemen could have a tough time with. Aidoo creates space for Tennessee and their guards. He can even get out in transition. Surprisingly, Aidoo possesses a solid amount of speed for a big man.
There is this thought process that Syracuse could make a game of this. On the other hand, Syracuse does not have the defensive acumen of Tennessee. The Volunteers can score and avoid being scored upon. Expect Tennessee to break a close game open in the second half. Take the cover here anyway.
What About The Under For Monday Afternoon?
Finally, Monday NCAA Basketball Picks ponders the under for Monday afternoon. This game saw the game total shift several times. Now, it has risen back up to 145. That favors this prediction a little more than say on Friday when this game was around 147.5. We have seen this before this season with a team who looked good but had not been tested. Add in the time of this game and it lends to a little less scoring.
Roll with the Under as the teams may be a little sloppy in the early going on Monday.
