The 2023 Asia Cup is a 50-over ODI competition that will take place in Pakistan and Sri Lanka. It’s a competition that has previously been played as both a 50-over tournament and a T20 tournament.

The competition was last held in 2022, in T20 format. Sri Lanka won back then, defeating Pakistan by 23 runs in the final.

The last time it was played as a 50-over competition was in 2018. On that occasion, India beat Bangladesh in the final by three wickets.

As ever with a cricket competition involving India and Pakistan, politics plays a part.

This year is no different, and with Pakistan co-hosting the event, arguments have ensued about the security of the Indian team, and what locations they would play, and be based in.

Eventually, Sri Lanka was settled on as a venue for India’s matches, and despite Pakistan co-hosting the event, their group match against India will take place in Kandy, Sri Lanka. That match is scheduled to take place on September 2nd, and will no doubt be an event in itself.

Competition Format

The six teams are broken up into two groups of three. The three sides in each group will all play each other once, with the top two sides of each group advancing to the Super Four.

The two groups are:-

Group A

  • Pakistan
  • India
  • Nepal

Group B

  • Sri Lanka
  • Afghanistan
  • Bangladesh

In the Super Four, all four teams play each other once. This is also in a group format, with the top two teams from the Super Four advancing to the final. The final will be played at the R. Premadasa International Cricket Stadium in Columbo, Sri Lanka on September 17th.

Of the countries taking part, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka, all qualified as members of the Asian Cricket Council. Nepal will take their place for the first time. They qualified by winning the 2023 ACC Men's Premier Cup.

Betting to win the 2023 Asia Cup

It’s been a long road to get to the start of the competition, but now that all seems to be well, we can finally focus on cricket. The favorite with the best cricket betting online sites to win the competition is India (India is also the favorite in the latest 2023 Cricket World Cup betting).

India is odds on at -110. Second in the betting is Pakistan at +220, with Sri Lanka at +550. Bangladesh is +1000, with Afghanistan at +1800. Finally, Nepal is a huge outsider in the betting at odds of +25000.

The cricket betting odds we have used for our Asia Cup betting table are taken from the best cricket betting sites, ensuring you get the best value for money on your cricket wagers.

Sri Lanka+550+550+550
Bangladesh+1000+1000+1000
Afghanistan+1800+1800+1800
Nepal+25000+25000+25000

India -110

As the only one of the so-called big three in world cricket competing in this event, India would be the favorite.

India has named a strong squad for this competition. They will possibly be using it to fine-tune their starting XI ahead of the ICC Cricket World Cup, which is being held in India just after the conclusion of this event.

Pakistan +225

Pakistan last won this competition in 2012. They have only won it twice previously. But as co-hosts, they will be as determined as ever to win it again. Led by Babar Azam, Pakistan will be a threat against any team, and if they and India both qualify from Group A, they will get two cracks at beating the old enemy.

If they can win the second match against India (in the Super Four), their tails will be up. And that will make them a good bet to win the competition.

Sri Lanka +550

After a few years of struggling in international cricket, Sri Lanka is finally on the comeback trail. The team is a young developing one, and this competition could be too early in their development for them to have a chance of winning it.

With Bangladesh and Afghanistan in their group, Sri Lanka may struggle to reach the Super Four. But if they do make it through, home advantage could mean they have a good chance of winning.

Bangladesh +1000

Bangladesh has never won this competition before. They are a team that has come a long way over the past 20 years. But in more recent times, they seem to have stood still.

We feel the best they can hope for here is claiming a big scalp in the Super Four.

Afghanistan +1800

Like Bangladesh, the Afghans are outsiders who can give anybody a game on their day. But if we were going to back an outsider to win, the Afghans would have to be the team. With Rashid Khan likely to feature, they will always have a chance of upsetting a favorite.

Nepal +25000

Nepal has done well to get here. They’re in a group with India and Pakistan. The reality is, they won’t get past the group stage.

Our Picks

We feel that India will have one eye on the upcoming ICC World Cup. They are also odds-on, and we feel the whole package makes them a bet worth avoiding.

The two host nations will have points to prove. We feel that Pakistan is the better value pick at +225. But if Sri Lanka can make it through their group, they would all of a sudden look a good bet at +550.
