Time Magazine Person of the Year 2024 Futures and Picks

The 2024 Time Person of the Year award is a long way off, but with this being an American Presidential Election year, the betting market is extremely active. Donald Trump is the favorite, but he has plenty of competition from the likes of MrBeast and even Artificial Intelligence (AI), to name but a couple. In our latest Entertainment futures, we look at the latest betting and tell you the best bets to place.

  • The Time Magazine Person of the Year is awarded to the person or event the publication says has had the biggest influence on global events across the year
  • Taylor Swift won the accolade in 2023, the second time the singer-songwriter won the award, this time for her contribution to the arts due to her record-breaking Eras Tour
  • Donald Trump is favored to win again in 2024. The 2016 winner is among the favorites, with fellow Presidential candidate Joe Biden not far behind

The Time Person of the Year award dates back to 1927. It is an award handed out by the editors of the magazine to the person(s) or event that they decide had the biggest global influence of the previous 12 months.

The award is not necessarily an endorsement of a person or an event. For example, Donald Trump won it in 2016, and Joe Biden and Kamala Harris shared it in 2020. Both winners are from opposite sides of the political devide.

Further muddying the waters are the group winners in 2017 and 2018. In 2017, it was awarded to the Silence Breakers, women who spoke out and highlighted sexual abuse, and in 2018, it went to the Guardians, journalists who have been murdered or persecuted around the world.

Betting to win 2024 Time Person of the Year

In the latest entertainment betting online, the former US President Donald Trump is the favorite to be 2024 Time Person of the Year at +325.

The early front-runner was YouTuber MrBeast, but after presumably waking up to the fact that the award often goes to US Presidents in election years, the betting sites have slashed the odds of both Trump and Biden.

Both MrBeast and Joe Biden are in the running at +400, as is Artificial Intelligence. At odds of +500 is Sam Altman.

Also worth a shoutout are former winners Elon Musk (2021) and Volodymyr Zelensky (2022) at +700. King Charles III can be backed to win at odds of +1000.

The Political effect

Don’t underestimate politics when it comes to Time Magazine’s Person of the Year.

In the past, Franklin D. Roosevelt, Harry S. Truman, Lyndon B. Johnson, Richard Nixon, Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush, Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, and Barack Obama have all won the award.

In more recent years, it was awarded to Clinton in 92, George W. Bush in 2000 and 2004, Barack Obama in 2008 and 2012, Donald Trump in 2016, and Joe Biden in 2020. These were all in years that elections were run.

World Events and Artificial Intelligence

Throwing a spanner in the works of the political effect is world events.

Wars in the Middle East and Europe are having a large impact across the globe. We’ve already seen Volodymyr Zelensky win this award. He may likely win it again if circumstances dictate.

Furthermore, if a big enough personality comes along and manages to calm down the situation in either of those regions, they would also be a player in this market.

AI is now huge, it can’t be dismissed. It could even be effective in the current US Presidential race, maybe even more so than the two main candidates.

There is a divide in this genre in the market. Sam Altman is +500. He is the CEO of OpenAI and is regarded as one of the leading figures behind the AI boom. Altman is a live player in this market. But so is the technology he plays such a significant role in.

Our Picks to be Time Magazine Person of the Year in 2024

There is a lot that can change between now and the award being handed out. And as we’ve discussed, the world is a different place from what it was when Trump won in 2016, and Biden and Harris shared the award in 2020.

But as things stand, US politicians look to be the best and safest bet. Given the current odds, a bet on both Trump and Biden would still see a profit if one of them won.

Unless something drastic happens between now and the election, a wager on one or both would have to be the best value betting pick.
