When it comes to Idaho betting news, we are still waiting to see if the state is going to find a way to get things legalized by next year. Until then, due to Federal regulations, people continue to use prediction markets for their sports betting needs, which is something that officials want to end as soon as possible. Well, another change could be coming and it's not ideal. That's because a new Kalshi loan proposal would add to Idaho's prediction markets concerns. How so?

Just this week, news broke that Kalshi is working to 'allow margin trading' on its platform, which essentially means that people would be allowed to borrow money and place bets that way instead of making deposits into their accounts first. For plenty of people, this has raised a ton of red flags and understandably so. Gambling addiction is of course a big worry when it comes to sports betting, but now imagine people being able to take out loans for their bets? It'd have the possibility of being a disaster.

"Kalshi has asked the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) for permission to let users of its prediction market borrow money from it to wager bets on its prediction market," Yahoo Sports revealed in a new post discussing things. "Margin trading, often referred to as leverage, is when people borrow money from a brokerage to buy more stocks or other assets than they could afford with their own cash."

As you might have been able to guess, officials are a bit up in arms over this, especially because legal sports betting is yet to be given the green light in Idaho. Now imagine people being able to 'borrow' money before placing bets on futures outcomes for sports? This will only set Idaho sports betting back - we'll have to wait and see if this new proposal gets pushed back or not.

Idaho continues to work to get prediction markets banned in the state

This new Kalshi update doesn't take away from the fact that Idaho continues to work to get prediction markets banned in the state. In case you missed it earlier this summer, Idaho joined a coalition of more than 30 states who have banded together to make prediction markets potentially regulated on a state-by-state basis. As things stand, the opposite is the case, which has thrown things for a loop.

Despite Idaho not having online sports betting, people indeed can keep using the prediction markets for their sports wagers. This is something Idaho and other states who don't have legal sports betting, including Texas and California, are working to fight against. However, with things permitted across the nation, there's only so much respective states can do.

With that said, Idaho wants to see if things can get banned sooner rather than later. With NFL betting here (more on that below), the rise in wagers through the prediction markets is going to continue to rise in Idaho. The same can be said for countless states for that matter. However, the state doesn't get a dime from tax revenues, which also is not fair. The way to fix this would be to legalize sports betting in Idaho soon, but it remains to be seen if people will work together to make that happen or not.

NFL betting in Idaho is only going to go up through the prediction markets

While there's no pro team in the state, it's safe to assume that NFL betting in Idaho is only going to go up through the prediction markets moving forward. That's because local football fans have a strong interest in the Seattle Seahawks, who are in nearby Washington. The Seahawks continue to hold strong Super Bowl betting odds after winning it all last year.

The Seahawks are off to a strong 2-0 start, with Jaxon Smith-Njigba looking like a serious contender to win NFL Offensive Player of the Year- his odds only went up after scoring three touchdowns against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 2. That's of course something fans in Idaho are going to keep a close eye on moving forward.

They're also going to monitor Seattle's Super Bowl betting odds, as this NFC West powerhouse is hoping to repeat as the champs. This is something you can fully expect supporters in Idaho to keep betting on, but they'll only be doing so through the prediction markets. It's a shame that's the way things have to be, but until the laws change overall in Idaho, things will continue to move in this direction.
