NBA Betting News This Month | Odds on Where LeBron James Plays Next, Market Trends & Analysis | July, 2026
After already dissecting the best odds to win the 2027 NBA Finals last time around, the Association’s offseason is already in full swing. Between a flurry of trades, free-agency signings, rumors and draft selections, the outlook for the upcoming 2026-27 season has already changed in a big way. It’s about to change a whole lot more as well.
LeBron James has officially informed the Los Angeles Lakers he will not be returning next season and intends to sign elsewhere. At this writing, he has yet to pick his new destination. Many, in fact, believe his decision could drag out. As a result, LeBron’s limbo is dominating NBA prop betting markets. Where will he go next? The Cleveland Cavaliers? Golden State Warriors? San Antonio Spurs?
Everyone is dying to know.
Fortunately, we are here to try shedding some clarity on the matter. We will break down the top projected landing spots for the four-time champion, as well as deliver our best bet to actually land King James. For good measure, we will also see whether there has been any movement on 2027 NBA Finals betting lines, in addition to the odds on who will win NBA MVP.
Ready? Set? Let’s go!
Here is a look at which three teams have the best odds to land LeBron James. These lines are accurate as of July 1 and come courtesy of the folks over at Bovada.
2027 NBA Finals Odds
Golden State Warriors (+500)
Cleveland Cavaliers (+300)
Dallas Mavericks (+3000)
New York Knicks (+3000)
Miami Heat (+1000)
Ranking the NBA teams LeBron James is most likely to join
Go ahead and look at the LeBron James free-agency odds from all of the best NBA betting sites. Most will paint the same picture. But we are about to concoct a different one.
These rankings do not reflect what the markets think. They portray what we believe are the best bets to land LeBron relative to their potential return and the likelihood he would consider them. With all of that in mind, here are our five favorite LeBron James destinations, ranked from worst to first.
3. New York Knicks (+3000)
Sure, the Knicks can likely only offer the league minimum. And yes, LeBron may not want to be viewed as a championship hanger-on. Still, he has always enjoyed playing at Madison Square Garden. Heading to New York would give him more than 40 opportunities to play on MSG's floor alone.
What's more, despite winning the title, the Knicks still have a clear-cut need for another ball-handler other than Finals MVP Jalen Brunson. Assuming Josh Hart is willing to come off the bench, LeBron could slot neatly into a starting five with JB, OG Anunoby, Karl-Anthony Towns and Mikal Bridges.
After taking time to decompress and undergo some self-assessment, LeBron James came to the conclusion that he wanted to continue playing “meaningful, competitive basketball,” a source familiar with James’ thinking told ESPN.

King James needn't worry about infringing upon Brunson's touches, either. New York's captain proved during the title run he's nothing if not adaptable given how well he played off Towns when head coach Mike Brown started funneling more of the playmaking responsibilities his way. We aren't saying adding LeBron would guarantee the Knicks make it back to the Finals. But we aren't not not saying it, either.
2. Golden State Warriors (-500)
Look, we would love to see LeBron and Stephen Curry team up as much as anyone. But the resulting Warriors squad would be old. Steph, LeBron, Draymond Green, Al Horford and Jimmy Butler are all over the age of 35. And Butler isn't expected to be ready while recovering from a torn ACL before the calendar flips to 2027. Even Kristaps Porzingis, whom Golden State just re-signed, is prone to absences despite being "only" 30.
How many games would this full core be available for? We can't even begin to answer that question. It would be one thing if the Warriors played in the East. Even if it is now the deeper conference, it is also the more wide-open conference, too.
But they play in the West. And a team built around a 41-year-old LeBron and 38-year-old Steph probably won't have the stamina to contend for anything beyond a middle-run playoff berth.
Make no mistake, we still want to see it. But the stakes don't feel high enough to declare Golden State the favorite.
1. San Antonio Spurs (+10000)
Oh, yes. We are going here.
Teaming up with Victor Wembanyama makes all the sense in the world for LeBron. The San Antonio Spurs just made the NBA Finals. Between development from Wemby himself, Stephon Castle and Dylan Harper, they may not need LeBron to win the whole darn thing next year. So imagine what happens if they do add him.
Truth be told, the Spurs are the best blend of everything LeBron could want. They are hyper-relevant. They have real depth. They can pay him up to the non-taxpayer mid-level exception of $15 million, which easily outstrips the league's minimum or the mini MLE ($6.1 million). And even with Castle, Harper and De'Aaron Fox in the fold, the Spurs could use a floor general to organize the offense against intense defensive pressure. Especially in crunch time. That describes LeBron to a T.
Breaking down the way-too-early odds to win 2027 NBA MVP
We have refreshed the 2027 MVP odds recently released by the folks over at BetOnline sportsbook. Not surprisingly, we have not seen much change in the top candidates. The top-nine candidates, in fact, are exactly the same.
Here is the full list:
- Victor Wembanyama (+200)
- Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (+330)
- Nikola Jokic (+500)
- Luka Doncic (+650)
- Giannis Antetokounmpo (+1600)
- Jayson Tatum (+2200)
- Anthony Edwards (+2200)
- Cade Cunningham (+2700)
- Jalen Brunson (+3500)
- Kawhi Leonard (+5000)
We would be remiss if we did not share our usual dose of free betting strategy advice / typical disclaimer when it comes to this market: NBA MVPs almost always come from a top-three seed in their conference. If you don't think your preferred candidate will be on a top-three seed, then it's safest to choose another option.
Victor Wembanyama (+200) emerging as the odds-on favorite is no surprise. You should expect him to remain near the pole position for the foreseeable future.
From a value perspective, we still love Jalen Brunson (+3500) and Cade Cunningham (+2700). Forced to choose, we would lean Cunningham, because he has less help on offense, and voters love spotlighting guys with heavier workloads.
However, following Kawhi Leonard's trade to the Toronto Raptors, we think the oddsmakers are under-indexing Scottie Barnes' chances.

As of now, Barnes is laying +15000 to win MVP. While we are not prepared to predict an outright victory, he figures to have a more central role on offense and defense than Leonard. If the Raptors are vying for position at the top of the East, he will be the driving force behind why.
Updated 2027 NBA championship odds
There is a lot of NBA offseason left to navigate. The below NBA 2027 Finals odds are going to change. But with so much player movement—from Giannis Antetokounmpo going to the Heat and Kawhi rejoining the Raptors, to Ja Morant getting shipped to the Portland Trail Blazers and LaMelo Ball shockingly ending up with the Minnesota Timberwolves—we have already seen a bunch of movement from opening lines.
So, as of July 1, here are the 10 teams with the best NBA championship odds:
- San Antonio Spurs (+260)
- Oklahoma City Thunder (+270)
- Boston Celtics (+700)
- New York Knicks (+850)
- Toronto Raptors (+2200)
- Detroit Pistons (+2200)
- Denver Nuggets (+2200)
- Cleveland Cavaliers (+2200)
- Minnesota Timberwolves (+2500)
- Miami Heat (+2700)
There is a lot to take away from here. First and foremost, the Spurs have usurped the Thunder as favorites. That is shocking, and frankly, not really deserved. Oklahoma City remains the best team in the NBA at full strength. Staging a few salary dumps of seldom-used reserves doesn't change that.
The Raptors went from barely in the top 15 to fifth just by trading for Kawhi. That seems aggressive. Then again, other than the Knicks and Celtics, no East team profiles as definitively better than them.
If we are being honest, the Heat should probably be concerned that they barely snuck into the top 10 despite just trading for Giannis, one of the five best players alive. They need to hope that they get lucky filling out the roster ASAP.

Finally, the Nuggets are sliding down the pecking order following the news that Nikola Jokic may not sign an extension. While Denver won't be thrilled if he makes this decision, it is in no position to trade him, either. So the latest Jokic developments, in our estimation, should change your priors on the Nuggets' 2027 chances.
