Colorado has a chance to break the single-season points record of 135 set by Boston in 2022-23, but that doesn't make the Avalanche a lock to win the Stanley Cup. Just ask that very Bruins team, which ended up losing their first-round series in seven games to the eventual champion Florida Panthers.
More than any other sport, upsets are a certainty in hockey. With that in mind, let's look at the latest Stanley Cup futures to find some longshots. Odds are subject to change.

The Stanley Cup favorites
Colorado (+270) lost in regulation only twice in their first 40 games, however, they already have three regulation losses since the New Year. While that's nothing to be concerned about, the Avalanche need to make it through the rest of the season (and the upcoming Olympic break) with all their star players healthy.
Nathan Mackinnon leads the league in goals (38) and is tied for most points (85) with Connor McDavid. Cale Makar is pacing all defenseman with 54 points while goaltender Scott Wedgewood is second in save percentage (.917) and third in goals against average (2.19 GAA).

How the West was won
Vegas (+850) is in top spot in the Pacific after a recent seven-game winning streak. In addition to bringing in Mitch Marner in free agency to join Jack Eichel and Mark Stone up front, the Golden Knights fortified their back end by acquiring defenseman Rasmus Andersson from Calgary last week.
Dallas (+1400) and Minnesota (+1800) are ice cold at the moment with the Stars losing 10 of 12 and the Wild dropping five of their last seven contests. But both teams are still in the upper echelon of the NHL, and the Avalanche will have to face one of them in the 2nd round to get out of the Central division.
Who's coming out of the East?
Tampa Bay (+575) is tied with the Hurricanes (+750) for the most points in the Eastern Conference following their recent 11-game winning streak. With both Nikita Kucherov and Andrei Vasilevskiy in top form, the Lightning just might return to the winner's circle after hoisting back-to-back Cups in 2020 and 2021.
Florida (+1100) is one of the worst wagers you can make. While Matthew Tkachuk is finally back in the lineup, captain Aleksander Barkov is out for the foreseeable future and the Panthers are five points out of a playoff spot.
Ripping it up offensively for well over a month now, Connor McDavid has 49 points over his last 23 games alone. A big 3+ point effort in tonight's @EdmontonOilers meeting with the Devils would put him on this list of incredible 24-game spans by a player within a single NHL season pic.twitter.com/8USQK2KbFV

2026 NHL Stanley Cup Longshot Picks
Edmonton (+900) has made consecutive Stanley Cup Finals appearances. Leon Draisaitl has 25 goals and 42 assists through 48 games this season and Connor McDavid recently enjoyed a 20-game point streak where he put up a whopping 46 points.
The Oilers' goaltending has even improved with Connor Ingram allowing only six goals in five games since being called up from the AHL. With the Panthers finally out of the picture, take the Oilers (+900) to win the championship and end Canada's 32-year Stanley Cup drought.
