NHL Betting News This Week | Stanley Cup Final Best Bets, Market Watch & Betting Analysis | June 9, 2026
Four games into the set, the Stanley Cup final between the Carolina Hurricanes and Vegas Golden Knights is deadlocked at 2-2. Carolina’s 5-3 Game 4 victory over the Golden Knights not only pulled the Hurricanes even in the best-of-seven set, but it also enabled them to wrestle the chalk on who will win the series away from Vegas in the latest NHL betting lines.
The Hurricanes are set by oddsmakers as the -142 odds-on chalk to win in the Stanley Cup betting lines. If this set goes the full seven-game distance, two of the final three games will be played at Carolina’s Lenovo Center.
Vegas is the second betting choice in this market at +122. Since entering the NHL in 2017-2018, the Golden Knights have advanced to the Stanley Cup final three times. This is also Carolina’s third appearance in the Cup final series.
Vegas (2023) is a recent Stanley Cup winner. Carolina most recently won in 2006. For the Golden Knights and Hurricanes, those were their only Cup victories in franchise history.
Best NHL bets for Stanley Cup final matchups
Each spring, the grueling four rounds of competition for the Stanley Cup not only make for compelling entertainment, it also offer bettors a bunch of wagering opportunities. It starts with the traditional standard fare of game betting on moneylines, puck lines, and total goals. There are also player and game prop options, as well as regular and same-game parlay plays.
Beyond that, NHL bettors can wager on the outcome for each of the eight first-round series. Longer range wagers include future book betting on the winners of the Eastern and Western Conferences, as well as the Stanley Cup. Exact final matchups and precise series outcomes are other betting choices. And there’s also the chance to bet on which player will take home the coveted Conn Smythe Trophy as Stanley Cup MVP.

Svechnikov picked to be the big shooter
In an NHL exact number of games prop on the Stanley Cup final series, wagering that the set is going the full seven games is the +180 favorite. The betting line is +190 that the Cup winner will be determined in six games. It's +270 that a team wins the Cup in five games. And betting on a four-game sweep will garner a betting line of +650. Carolina’s Game 4 victory ensured the Stanley Cup Final will require six or more games to determine a winner for the third straight Final and sixth over the past eight years (since 2019). The total games betting line on the series is set at 6.5. Play the over at -115, or go with the under at -105.
Oddsmakers are counting on cold sticks heating up in a prop wager on who will score the most goals in the cup final series. Currently 37th in Stanley Cup goal scoring with four goals, Carolina forward Andrei Svechnikov is the +600 chalk to be the leading goal scorer in the 2026 Stanley Cup final. Vegas forward Jack Eichel is next in this betting market at odds of +650. Eichel is 96th in playoff scoring with two goals. Golden Knights forward Pavel Dorofeyev, who shares third in playoff goal-scoring lead with 10, is next with a betting line of +700. Carolina's Seth Jarvis (+750), Mitch Marner of Vegas (+800), Carolina's Logan Stankoven, and his teammate Nikolaj Ehlers, both at +900, are the other players with betting lines shorter than +1000. Stankoven has 11 goals. Interestingly, you can access odds of +2000 on Vegas forward Brett Howden. He is currently leading the goal-scoring chase with 14 tallies.
Best Stanley Cup final betting trends
Is there a home-ice advantage in the Stanley Cup final? Recent betting trends suggest that, yes, there is. Home teams have won 21 of 33 Stanley Cup final games straight up since 2020. That's a 63.6% success rate. Five of the past six Stanley Cup deciding games were won on home ice.
Which is the most important game to win in a series? Obviously, it's the last one. But if you must put a number on it, eventual Stanley Cup champions are 6-0 straight up in Game 2 over the past six final series. Eventual winners are 4-2 straight up in Game 1 over the same span.
That old theory about games tightening up in the final series doesn't hold water. In the past four Cup final series, the over has hit on the total 52.5% of the time. In this series, the Golden Knights and Hurricanes have combined to average 8.3 goals through the first four games.
Being the betting choice to win the Cup bodes well for the Hurricanes. Favorites have won six straight Cup final series since the underdog St. Louis Blues won in 2019. Overall, the betting chalk is 17-3 SU in the past 20 Stanley Cup finals.
Both Carolina (2006) and Vegas (2023) won the Cup as the betting chalk. The Golden Knights lost the 2018 Cup final as underdogs in the betting line. Carolina dropped the 2002 Cup final to Detroit as the underdog in the set.
Conn Smythe Trophy odds
They said he wasn't a winner when the Toronto Maple Leafs let forward Mitch Marner go last summer. This spring, Vegas Golden Knights forward Marner is leading the Stanley Cup playoffs in scoring with 29 points. Marner has also emerged as the even-money favorite to win the Conn Smythe Trophy, which goes to the Stanley Cup MVP.
Carolina Hurricanes goalie Frederik Andersen was the +210 second betting choice in this market. Goaltenders have won the Conn Smythe Trophy on 17 occasions. However, a poor performance in Game 3 led to Andersen being relegated to the bench. Backup Brandon Bussi got the win for the Hurricanes in Game 4
It's Carolina forwards Logan Stankoven and Taylor Hall who now rate as the co-second betting choice in Conn Smythe Trophy futures with odds of +375. Stankoven is second in playoff goal scoring with 11 tallies. If he wins, Hall would be the 14th player in NHL history to be named both regular-season and Stanley Cup MVP. Hall won the Hart Trophy as NHL MVP with the New Jersey Devils in 2017-18.
JORDAN STAAL DIVING GOAL FOR THE LEAD 😱

Carolina captain Jordan Staal is the +600 fourth betting choice. Staal has scored in each of the four games of the Stanley Cup final series. Back in the Cup final for the first time in 17 years, Staal became the fourth player in the expansion era (since 1968) to record a goal in the first four games of a Stanley Cup Final. The others are Mike Bossy (1982 New York Islanders), Steve Payne (1981 Minnesota North Stars), and Johnny Bucyk (1970 Boston Bruins). Staal is also the first captain in NHL history to score a goal in each of the first four games of a Stanley Cup Final series.
Vegas forward Brett Howden, who leads the NHL playoffs with 14 goals, is given a +10000 betting line to win the Conn Smythe Trophy.
Montreal captain Jean Beliveau was the first winner of the Conn Smythe Trophy back in 1964-65. Only five players have ever been voted playoff MVP from a team that didn't win the Stanley Cup. The most recent was Edmonton's Connor McDavid in 2024.
If you're looking for Conn Smythe Trophy betting trends, the last three winners of the award were all forwards. Interestingly, two of the past five winners of the playoff MVP were defensemen. Since 1972, just one defenseman has been recognized as the NHL regular-season MVP. Six different goaltenders have had their names inscribed on the Conn Smythe Trophy since 2001.
Stanley Cup omen favors Hurricanes
The Hurricanes are 14-3 in the playoffs and became the sixth team in Stanley Cup history to start a postseason 8-0, according to NHL historical records. Every previous team to open the NHL playoffs 8-0 went on to win the Stanley Cup.
Edmonton actually began the 1985 NHL playoffs that spring with nine successive victories. The Oilers finished that playoff year with a 15-3 record.
In 1976, the Canadiens started the playoffs 8-0. Montreal wound up going 12-2 and winning the Cup. In 1969, Montreal opened the playoffs 8-0, winning the Stanley Cup while finishing with a 12-2 slate.
In the six-team NHL era, when it took only eight wins to capture the Cup, two clubs managed to go 8-0 and complete a perfect playoff season. The Canadiens did it in 1960, and the Detroit Red Wings went 8-0 while winning the Stanley Cup in 1952.
Avs bit by curse
The Presidents' Trophy curse bit the Colorado Avalanche. This is the 40th season that the NHL has awarded the Presidents' Trophy to the top regular-season team. Of the previous 39 winners, only eight teams have gone on to win the Stanley Cup. The most recent to do so was the 2012-13 Chicago Blackhawks. In the NHL's salary cap era (since the 2005-06 season), only three Presidents' Trophy winners have also won the Stanley Cup.
This was the third time in four springs that Colorado was favored to win the Stanley Cup. The Avs didn't win in any of those seasons.
Tortorella is back . . . 22 years later
Vegas coach John Tortorella is looking to coach his second Stanley Cup winner, more than two decades following his first title. He guided the Tampa Bay Lightning to the 2004 Stanley Cup title.
The Golden Knights hired the 67-year-old bench boss to replace Bruce Cassidy with just eight games remaining in the NHL regular season. Detroit's Scotty Bowman, 68 in 2002, is the oldest coach to win a Cup. That spring, his Red Wings beat Carolina in the final.
Tortorella is also seeking to join Dick Irvin (1932 Toronto Maple Leafs), Al MacNeil (1971 Canadiens), Larry Robinson (2000 New Jersey Devils), Dan Bylsma (2009 Pittsburgh Penguins), Darryl Sutter (2012 Los Angeles Kings), Mike Sullivan (2016 Pittsburgh Penguins), and Craig Berube (2019 St. Louis Blues) as coaches who won the Cup after being an in-season replacement.
Captain and coach
Carolina coach Rod Brind'Amour was the captain of the Hurricanes when they won their only Stanley Cup title in 2006.
The Carolina Hurricanes haven’t played in the Stanley Cup Final in 20 years.

If he guides the Canes to this year's title, he'll join Toe Blake of the Montreal Canadiens in having captained and coached the same team to a Stanley Cup championship.
Hurricanes the pick again next season
There are already Stanley Cup futures for the 2026-27 season available. In this betting market, the Hurricanes are +700 favorites to win the Cup. The Avalanche is the +750 second betting choice. Vegas at +900 is the only other team offered at odds shorter than +1000.
At the opposite end of the spectrum, the Vancouver Canucks and Calgary Flames share the longest odds to win the Cup at +30000.
