Must-Read Betting Advice To Make Money On ATP Basel

Two ATP events are happening as you read this — the Swiss Indoor Basel and the Erste Bank Open (in Vienna). We’re of the belief that the Swiss tournament is more valuable to bet on and our focusing our efforts and pockets there. For expert betting advice on the ATP Basel, you’ll want to read this completely through!

Before we delve into our research-backed picks, let’s take a gander at the current ATP Basel odds being listed at reputable tennis betting sites. Of the players remaining in the tournament, the following have been earmarked as the betting favorites per bookies:

PlayersBetOnlineBovada
Carlos Alcaraz+250+250
Felix Auger Aliassime+650+650
Roberto Bautista Agut+850+850
Brandon Nakashima+1000+1000
Pablo Carreño Busta+1200+1200
Stan Wawrinka+1600+1600
Alex de Minaur+1600+1600

For what it’s worth, big-name players such as Daniil Medvedev, Dominic Thiem, and Stefanos Tsitsipas elected to participate in the Vienna event instead. That’s partially the reason why Alcaraz has been pegged as the clear favorite over the rest of the field. But there’s one more reason, which we’ll break down in the next section.

2022 ATP Basel Betting Breakdown

When the playing field for the ATP Basel was initially announced, three players were the clear favorites to win — the No. 1 ranked Alcaraz, Auger-Aliassime, and Casper Rudd. Welp, one of those names is already a goner and that’s where we should begin our breakdown of the 2022 ATP Basel event.

Look, if you’re reading this, the tournament is already underway. Play began on October 20 and wraps up this Sunday, October 30. It took little time before Rudd was upset in the Round of 32. The Swiss native Stan Wawrinka upset him on his home turf, which only improved Alcaraz’s odds of winning with a major threat taken care of so fast.

Speaking of Wawrinka, he’s the crowd favorite this time around with another Swiss-born player, Roger Federer now out of the picture. Federer won the 2019 Basel event — the most recent outing due to two years of pandemic cancellation — but of course, can’t defend his title now that he’s retired.

Without Rudd, that leaves Alcaraz and Auger-Aliassime in the driver’s seat. Alcaraz avoided the one-and-done disaster that crashed him out at Astana before this event. It wasn’t easy, but Alcaraz won his opening match against Jack Draper. The match went to three sets and forced Alcaraz into comeback mode in only his second tourney appearance since winning the US Open. Auger-Aliassime has yet to play his Round of 32 meeting with a different Swiss-born competitor, Marc-Andrea Huesler.

One more player to watch out for is Andy Murray. The former No. 1 player is partaking in this event for the first time since he was 18 years old — all the way back in 2005. Murray is already onto the Round of 16 after just barely beating out Roman Safiullin 6-7(5), 6-3, 6-4. Darkhorse candidate? Murray is obviously not the player of old, but an upset title is not out of the question for a tourney lacking many of the major names (Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, etc.).

Best Bets To Win 2022 ATP Basel

Whether you’re betting on a Grand Slam or a “regular” tournament like this one, the smart betting strategy with tennis is to at least bet on two players to win any event. The sport is too unpredictable to go “all in” on a single player. Therefore, we’ll be sharing two different bets to win the 2022 ATP Basel. You can follow us and bet both ways or just pick one if your pockets demand a more conservative approach. Here’s who we’re taking to win:

Carlos Alcaraz

We hinted at this earlier, but Alcaraz is the best player in the field, without question. And now that he’s defeated Draper, there’s a clear path to victory for Alcaraz the rest of the way. His side of the draw isn’t overly difficult if we’re being honest.

One more under-the-radar reason why we like Alcaraz’s chances is the No. 1 ranking. Only 19 years old and into his second event since taking the top ranking, there’s pressure on Alcaraz to live up to the billing. Good pressure we’d argue because as we saw at the U.S. Open, Alcaraz can deliver when the heat is on. After such a bad showing at Astana, we’re of the mindset that Alcaraz is eager to rebound and go into Turin with high confidence. So yes, the 19-year-old prodigy is a no-brainer bet in our mind.

Stan Wawrinka

Alcaraz is the safe betting choice, but Wawrinka is the more low-risk, high-reward betting pick. We were hesitant to bet on Wawrinka pre-tourney because of the tough draw against Rudd, but now that he’s outlasted him, we could see Wawrinka spurred with confidence the remainder of the way.

Plus, Wawrinka has a history of success at this event. On two occasions before, he’s made it as far as the semi-finals. With a partisan crowd backing him, we wouldn’t be stunned to see Wawrinka go “all the way.” We’re putting money that it happens.
