Holloway vs Poirier 3
Despite losing his first two encounters with Dustin Poirier, Max Holloway is a slight -120 favorite on Saturday. The BMF belt holder made his UFC debut against Poirier way back in 2012. "Blessed" lost that fight via first-round submission but fared better in the UFC 236 rematch, losing in a unanimous decision.
Both fighters are coming off defeats. In June 2024, the 36-year-old Poirier fell to Islam Makhachev in the fifth round of their lightweight title fight at UFC 302. Meanwhile, the 33-year-old Holloway dropped his featherweight title match to Ilia Topuria in October.

UFC back in New Orleans
This is the first UFC event in New Orleans in nine years as Dustin Poirier gets his wish of having his retirement fight in his home state. The 36-year-old is known for being the best fighter in the sport to have never been an undisputed champion.
If he can defeat Holloway for the third time, "The Diamond" can retire as a champion. There has been some talk that the UFC may retire the BMF belt if he wins. For Holloway, who is fighting up a weight class, it's one last chance to defeat his rival. A victory would also line him up for a title shot in the 155-pound division.
Holloway coming off KO
While Holloway is the younger fighter and still in his prime, he suffered the first knockout of his career in his last trip to the ring. Now fighting up a division in lightweight, will the 33-year-old be able to handle Poirier's power? After all, his opponent almost knocked him down in the second fight before winning a unanimous decision against him.
“I was his first fight in the UFC and he’s going to be my last.”

Max Holloway vs Dustin Poirier 3 Picks
Dana White has a lot of respect for Dustin Poirier, who's done battle with seven former world champions in his last 11 fights. “Throughout the world, Dustin Poirier is a big star for us,” said White recently. “He’s accomplished a lot in the sport. This is for him, to be honest with you. This is for him.”
Awarded a retirement fight in his home state of Louisiana, Poirier will complete the hat trick against Holloway, writing a storybook ending to a fantastic career.
