Sorokin for Vezina?

Ilya Sorokin (+115) is the new favorite for the Vezina Trophy, even though his numbers don't exactly jump off the page. The Russian tender has a 13-10-4 win-loss record with a 2.57 GAA and a .911 save percentage.

Right now, the Islanders are second-place in the Metropolitan division despite scoring the 11th fewest goals per game (2.91) in the NHL. However, New York is just a couple points ahead of both the Flyers and Penguins. Should the Islanders fall out of a playoff spot, the NHL general managers who vote for this award would likely go in another direction.

Logan Lucky

Logan Thompson (+200) is in a similar spot to Sorokin, with Washington sitting in third-place in the division, just one point behind the Islanders. While the Capitals goalie has been getting more scoring support from Alexander Ovechkin and the gang, his GAA (2.34) and save-percentage (.916) tops Sorokin in both categories. He also has four more wins.

Looking deeper into the analytics, the 28-year-old also leads the league in goals saved above expected at 18.0, one full point ahead of Sorokin (17.0). It's no wonder he was recently named to Team Canada for the Olympic Winter Games.

Other longshots

Andrei Vasilevskiy (+800) will likely need both the Islanders and Capitals to miss the playoffs in order to capture the second Vezina Trophy of his career. But the two-time Stanley Cup winner could have a decent case if he ends up leading the league in wins. The Lightning legend is currently 19-7-2 with a 2.27 GAA and a .915 SV% for the top team in the Eastern Conference.

Scott Wedgewood (+900) is 19-3-4 with a 2.19 GAA and a .917 SV% for the Colorado Avalanche as they run away with the President's Trophy. Like Vasilevskiy, his candidacy relies on leading the league in W's with Sorokin and Thompson missing the postseason.

Jeremy Swayman (+2200) has an outside shot at the award if the Bruins can secure a playoff spot. The 27-year-old is having a nice bounce back year in Boston with a 18-11-2 record, a 2.79 GAA and a .905 SV%.

2026 NHL Vezina Trophy Picks

This two-horse race between Ilya Sorokin (+115) and Logan Thompson (+200) will likely come down to which netminder's team makes the playoffs. However, with longer odds, more wins and better numbers across the board, we'll take Thompson (+200) as the smarter value bet to win the 2026 Vezina Trophy.
