Max Verstappen favored for first ever British Grand Prix win at Silverstone

The 2023 British Grand Prix takes place at the world-famous Silverstone circuit this Sunday. This is Round 11 of the 2023 Formula 1 season, and it’s been a season dominated by Max Verstappen. The Dutchman arrives in the UK as the betting favorite and on a winning streak of five races. Here in our latest Formula 1 betting picks, we tell you if he will make it six, and we also name our alternative picks for Sunday’s big race.

  • What; 2023 British Grand Prix - Round 11
  • Where; Silverstone Circuit, Northamptonshire, England
  • When; Sunday, July 9th, 2023
  • Time; 10 am ET
  • Laps; 52
  • Race Length; 306.198 km

The British Grand Prix is one of the highlights of the sporting calendar. The Silverstone circuit is one of the most iconic on the F1 roster. And with its long straights offering more overtaking opportunities, the race is the ultimate experience for petrolheads.

Max Verstappen is the current championship leader. The Dutchman has won the previous five races and seven of the nine races this season. In the driver's standings, Verstappen has 229 points, giving him an 81-point lead over his closest (if we can call it close) rival, Sergio Perez, who has 148 points.

All this means you no longer can get a bet on the Dutchman winning this year's championship. Such is the Dutchman's current lead in the standings, the best online betting sites are no longer offering odds on Verstappen.

Verstappen looking for his first British Grand Prix victory

But would you believe that Max Verstappen has never won the British Grand Prix? Sounds mad, when he is winning just about everything else, but it is true.

Max Verstappen has won a Grand Prix on this circuit. The Red Bull driver was victorious in the 70th Anniversary Grand Prix in 2020. This race was to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the first Formula 1 World Championship race, also held at the same circuit in 1950.

Don’t be put off by Verstappen never having won the British Grand Prix. The Silverstone circuit has two long straights at Hangar and Wellington, and both are ideal for the faster Red Bulls. Maybe this could even bring Sergio Perez into the equation in the betting for a podium finish.

2023 British Grand Prix Winner Betting

No shocks here, as Max Verstappen is the favorite with the best Formula 1 online betting sites. The double-world champion is just -300 to win his sixth successive race.

Behind Verstappen is his teammate, Sergio Perez, who is +650. That’s a big cut in the odds of the Mexican, as he was +1000 to win just last weekend in Austria.

Behind the two Red Bulls is Lewis Hamilton at +1200. Charles Leclerc is at +1400, and Fernando Alonso is at +1600. If you think the Brits may perform well this weekend, George Russell is +2200, and after his magnificent fourth-place finish last Sunday, Lando Norris is +12500 to win his home Grand Prix.

Full betting on the British Grand Prix is available on our F1 odds table. And more information about the bookmakers listed on our table is on our betting bonuses and promotions page. Here you will find details of the latest offers for new and existing customers available from these bookmakers.

Max Verstappen to win again

Right, onto our betting picks to win the British Grand Prix, and how do we not pick Max Verstappen to win? He will be desperate to claim his first-ever British Grand Prix victory. Too desperate, maybe!

As we witnessed in Austria last Sunday when Verstappen insisted on pitting late on to try and claim the fastest lap, the only obstacle to him winning the 2023 World Championship, is the man himself.

If you think Verstappen is too risky to wager on at -300, that is understandable. But we have to name him as our pick to win the race.

British Grand Prix Alternative Picks

For our alternative picks, we’re looking toward home drivers. And first up, it’s Lando Norris. Improvements were made to the McLaren car ahead of Austria, and further updates are expected this week for Silverstone.

The impact seems to have been instant with Lando Norris finishing fourth last week in Austria. We think at +150, in his home Grand Prix, Norris is a good pick to finish in the top six.

Finally, another car supposedly receiving upgrades is the Mercedes. This wasn’t too apparent last Sunday in Spielberg, where Lewis Hamilton finished in a disappointing eighth position. But before that, Hamilton had finished in the top three in the previous two races, and more upgrades to the car are expected this week.

The eight times British Grand Prix winner will no doubt be fired up for his home Grand Prix. The only way he wins is if something happens to Verstappen. But Hamilton is the consummate professional, and he will be ready to pounce if Verstappen suffers any issues.

We think that makes Lewis Hamilton a good bet to finish in the top three at +100.
