After the cancellation of the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix last Sunday, the Formula 1 roadshow will finally reach Europe this weekend with the 2023 Monaco Grand Prix taking place on the streets of Monte Carlo. As per usual, Max Verstappen is the favorite. But the best F1 sites have him at his longest price to win in months. This race is probably better known for its setting and what goes on off the track. The Monte Carlo street circuit is notoriously difficult to overtake on, meaning races here can be a bit stale and predictable. Unfortunately, the action on the circuit doesn't match all the glitz and glamor that accompanies the race. This after all is the tax haven that is Monaco, playground to the rich and famous!
Such is the money here, a lot of the drivers are residents, and can literally walk from their front doors to the circuit. Anyway, what about the race itself? As we’ve mentioned, Max Verstappen is the favorite with the top F1 betting sites. But dare we say he is a lukewarm favorite this weekend? Let’s take a closer look.
Betting to win the 2023 Monaco Grand Prix; Who is the favorite?
For the first time in months, Max Verstappen is odds against, +115, to be precise. Usually he is around -200, or shorter, so this shows that the best Formula 1 online betting sites don’t see this as a turn up and win race for the double world champion.
This is because of what we mentioned above. With overtaking almost impossible, races can become processions, with the driver in pole position winning.
Behind Verstappen in the betting is his Red Bull teammate, Sergio Perez, who is +325. Perez has shown he is a real threat on road circuits over the past couple of seasons, and the Mexican will fancy his chances of a victory here.
Third in the betting is one of Monaco’s residents, Charles Leclerc. Leclerc is actually originally from Monaco, he isn’t someone who moved here for tax reasons. He has never won this race, failing to even finish it in his first three attempts in Formula 1. He was in pole position, and led the race here last year. That was until his Ferrari team made an almighty mess of their pit stop strategy, allowing Sergio Perez to win the race. Leclerc is +475 to win his first ever Monaco Grand Prix.
The final driver who the best online betting sites think has a chance of winning is Fernando Alonso. The Spaniard has won here twice (2006 and 2007), but not for over 15 years. The bookmakers have Alonso at +550 to claim his third career victory in Monte Carlo.

Betting to win the 2023 World Championship
Before we get onto our pick to win the race, let’s take a look at the latest betting to win the drivers World Championship. Max Verstappen won the last race in Miami, and the victory has seen him open up a 14 points lead over Sergio Perez.

The win in Miami was Verstappen’s third of the season, and the bookmakers now make him -900 to win his third world title in succession. Second in the betting is Sergio Perez at +600, with Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton both at +5000.
In betting without Verstappen, the favorite is still Sergio Perez at -700. With both Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton next at +1000.
Our Pick to win the Monaco Grand Prix
In the Grid Position of Winner betting market, pole position is the favorite at -140. It’s widely expected that this race will be decided in qualifying, and that’s why we’ve focused on who has landed the most pole positions this season, when it comes to choosing our pick.
So far, Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez have two pole positions each. The fifth pole was won by Charles Leclerc in Azerbaijan. This suggests that there is no obvious choice for pole. In the betting to be the fastest qualifier, the odds are Verstappen +135, Leclerc +180, Perez +375, and Alonso +750. This is interesting, as it doesn’t really tally up with the betting to win the race.
So, after weighing everything up, we’re of the opinion that Sergio Perez is the best value bet this weekend. His performances this season stack up. He has matched Verstappen for pole positions, and he is better value odds.
And we think Perez is worth backing to be in pole position, and to win the race. If either bet comes off, we’re in profit.
