It’s time for Preakness Stakes betting 2020! This spectacular horse race in Baltimore, Maryland, is usually the second leg of the American Triple Crown. In the year 2020, however, is will be run as the third leg, and is an official prep for the 2020 Breeders’ Cup Classic. The Preakness, run over 1 3/16 miles, carries a purse of $1 million on a card that has total purses of $2.7 million.

Preakness Handicapping
The top choice here is Art Collector, who missed the 2020 Kentucky Derby due to a foot issue. He is back and has been working well for this, showing that the injury no longer bothers him. He is riding a five-race win streak for trainer Tom Drury, including the Runhappy Ellis Park Derby, and the Toyota Blue Grass Stakes (G2). He has already defeated Swiss Skydiver and looks to take on Authentic next.
The chestnut filly Swiss Skydiver nearly ran in the Kentucky Derby, but finished second to Art Collector at Keeneland in July and thus she was rerouted to the Kentucky Oaks (G1), where finished second but defeated favored Gamine. The Ken McPeek-trained daughter of Daredevil has won major races all across the country this year, including the Grade 1 Alabama at Saratoga, the Grade 2 Santa Anita Oaks, the Grade 2 Gulfstream Park Oaks, and the Grade 3 Fantasy. All of those wins came at different racetracks. Rachel Alexandra showed in 2009 that fillies can beat the boys in the Preakness.
The most formidable foe in the race is 2020 Kentucky Derby winner Authentic. He has only been beaten once, and the horse that beat him has since been retired in Kentucky. Authentic won the Sham Stakes (G3) greenly to start the year, then added the Grade 2 San Felipe Stakes in what was considered the best Derby prep of the year at the time. After running second in the Santa Anita Derby, he won the Grade 1 Haskell by a nose, and the Derby itself. Bob Baffert trains the son of Into Mischief, who has earned over $2.8 million, more than anyone else in the field.
Pneumatic won the Pegasus Stakes at Monmouth Park on August 15. This is one of three Steve Asmussen-trained runners in the field, and he is by Uncle Mo. Pneumatic has won three of five starts and is flying under the radar, promising to be a big price in the race.
Liveyourbeastlife is going to be a huge longshot in the race but has decent credentials. The son of Ghostzapper won an allowance race at Saratoga before finishing second at 14-1 in the Grade 2 Jim Dandy. He will be ridden by top local guy Trevor McCarthy.
Jesus’ Team was third in the Jim Dandy and has been no worse than fourth since breaking his maiden this spring. The son of Tapiture has been the top three in seven of 10-lifetime tries.

Preakness Jockeys
Jockey John Velazquez, who rides 2020 Kentucky Derby winner Authentic, will be seeking to win the Preakness for the very first time. Of the 11 riders in the Preakness, only 1 has ever won the race: Robby Albarado on Curlin in 2007. He rides the filly Swiss Skydiver.
