OSB Side With The Dodgers Over The Diamondbacks Friday
  • When: Friday, May 9th at 9:45 PM ET
  • Who: Los Angeles Dodgers vs Arizona Diamondbacks
  • TV/Streaming: MLB Video
  • Starting Pitchers: Roki Sasaki and Eduardo Rodriguez
  • Where: Chase Field, in Phoenix, AZ

The Los Angeles Dodgers play game two of their four-game set versus the San Diego Padres. Yes, the Dodgers have played well of late winning nine of their previous 11 contests. Los Angeles leads the NL West over San Francisco and San Diego. Surprisingly, Arizona sits fourth in the division. Dodgers vs Diamondbacks bets take a look at the rivals and whether Los Angeles can pull away in the division further.

The Dodgers are again favored in another game this series. However, this time there is some good reason. For one, Roki Sasaki has had a bit of an adventure over his first month or so in the major leagues. Arizona's Eduardo Rodriguez has started off worse than expected. Given his near 6.00 ERA and high strikeout per 9 output, are there some other avenues to explore on Friday night in Major League Baseball.

Do remember to always look at our MLB Online Betting Strategies Guide, which will help you prepare for any MLB props, bets and more wagers you may be interested in. Los Angeles is on a different level while Arizona has struggled hovering around .500 all season so far. Worse, the Diamondbacks are having a tough time staying around .500 at home. Chase Field used to be an intimidating place to play. Unfortunately,

Meanwhile, with four potential contending teams in the NL West, every games matters. Can Los Angeles take down Arizona on the road or will Arizona bash their win to a victory?

Game Preview And Setting The Tables

The Dodgers vs Diamondbacks bets focuses on the two main wagers - the moneyline and the game total. Yes, these will most of the time be foremost on our minds. Below, we have the following table.

MLB Friday NightBovadaBetOnlineBetUS
Los Angeles Dodgers-130-135-135
Arizona Diamondbacks+110+115+115
Over 9.5 Runs-115-115-120
Under 9.5 Runs-105-105EVEN

While the Dodgers have been getting on a roll, Arizona seems content alternating wins and losses. Arizona scores around five runs a game and gives up nearly five runs a contest (+3 run differential at press time). In contrast, the Dodgers pitch a little better and hit the ball around pretty good. They score almost 5.5 runs per game while yielding right near four runs a night.

Someone asked again about the NRFI (No Run First Inning). Let us get that out of the way first. The thought process is that Los Angeles and Arizona may just feel each other out some.

Dodgers vs Diamondbacks Bets Take Another For The Road

Despite the road team being Los Angeles, the tendency is to still take another for the road. The Dodgers are not that far off from the team that won the World Series last year. Los Angeles, more often, will put up runs. Even when they do not, they find ways to win. Yoshinobu Yamamoto is one of the best pitchers in baseball. Roki Sasaki is not for one fundamental reason. Simply, he walks too many batters. Sasaki so far has walked 20 batters in 30+ innings pitched. Also, he has not gone more than six innings in any start.

Meanwhile, Eduardo Rodriguez cannot give up fewer than three runs in each start. Even when he strikes out a ton of batters, the runs have been there for the opposition. The other problem is the gopher ball. Rodriguez has given up seven home runs in seven starts. Since his two years in Detroit, Rodriguez just has not been the same. Hits per 9 is now in double digits and shows no signs of dipping back under. That should allow Los Angeles their fair share of scoring opportunities.

Betting on a road team going for an important victory is a good plan, and the spread may be prudent given the way the Diamondbacks are playing early in this 2025 season. For Arizona to be this many games out of first place is not that shocking. Teams have figured out Arizona. It is why Los Angeles expects to cover on Friday. They are the better team with a better defense. It really is that simple.

Game Totals With Los Angeles And Arizona

The game totals with Los Angeles and Arizona is definitely up there. With a higher 9.5 total here, that makes it easy to try and pivot towards the under. Also, do not forget that the Dodgers only need five runs to stay under the total of 5.5 runs which now comes in at -140 via BetOnline. This number is one of those wagers to play it safe on.

Their 5.46 runs per game is one of the best in the National League. The Dodgers do score in bunches but Thursday night gave us pause. Early on, neither Los Angeles nor Arizona could get runs across the plate. Eventually, Arizona did so but can they do that two games in a row?

Okay, the Arizona Diamondbacks will give up runs on Friday but will the teams get to double digits combined? That answer feels like a hard no given Arizona's inconsistency.

Overall, I'd take the under of 9.5 runs at -110 odds at Bovada. Do not worry as there will be more than enough props which will open up between now and that late start time on Friday. Do not forget the simple reality that Arizona Under 2.5 runs keeps sliding closer to Even. That feels like a sign.  The race to five runs has done the same. Roll with that under.
