When it comes to the Eastern Conference, it is no surprise that the defending NBA Champion New York Knicks are the favorite at +300. The Knicks went down 2-1 to Atlanta in their first round matchup before winning 15 of their final 16 contests. Inevitably, can the Knicks do it again with Jalen Brunson and company?
The Boston Celtics are second universally at sportsbooks (+450 via Bovada). Jaylen Brown, however, was traded to the Philadelphia 76ers. Despite this, a healthy Jayson Tatum (only played 16 games in 2025-26) and one of the best team defenses (107.2 points per game) carries potential.
Philadelphia stands at +700 to +750 and has Brown and Joel Embiid. Plus, the 76ers did outlast the Celtics in seven games in last year’s playoffs. At the least, their odds are worth watching.
Odds to win the 2026/27 Western Conference finals

After last year’s regular season and postseason, it was clear two teams were powerhouses in the Western Conference. Predictably, the San Antonio Spurs and Oklahoma City Thunder (both at +150) lead the way to win the Western Conference Finals. Oklahoma City led the West with 64 wins last year with San Antonio not far behind at 62.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander leads the Thunder up against Victor Wembanyama and Stephon Castle of the Spurs. The previous season’s seven game series to decide the Western Conference was an instant classic. Many bettors, fans, and sportsbooks expect a repeat.
The Western Conference has a few choices that would all be considered longer shots. Even Minnesota and Denver are +1100 and +1200 at their shortest for numbers. The Houston Rockets at +2300 via MyBookie might be one of the longest that still could have a chance in the West with Kevin Durant and Ime Udoka as their coach.
How NBA futures odds work
NBA futures odds are prices on outcomes that may take weeks or months to settle. One example is betting on which of the NBA’s 30 teams will win the 2027 NBA Championship.
Most NBA futures lines use American odds. The price reflects the sportsbook’s estimated probability of the outcome and determines the potential payout. Odds can move because of injuries, trades, team performance and betting activity.

Early futures odds usually offer larger potential payouts but come with more uncertainty. Waiting until later in the season gives bettors more information, although the odds on successful teams will often be shorter.
For example, if the New York Knicks are listed at +850, a successful $100 bet would produce an $850 profit. The total return would be $950, including the original stake.
Comparing prices can make a meaningful difference. A $100 bet at +850 returns $100 more in profit than the same winning wager placed at +750.

NBA futures betting strategy
Now, NBA Futures betting strategy requires a lot of patience for starters. First, a list of strategies can prove to be helpful.
- Line shopping
- Timing bets
- Avoiding the early-season knee-jerk reactions to form
- Tracking injuries
- Watching the NBA Trade Deadline
- Hedging opportunities
- Managing bankroll
Again, unlike prop bets, futures bets require a longer eye on things. Line shopping at a variety of sportsbooks for NBA Futures is essential because of how long the wagers take to resolve. If one bets on any NBA Championship futures now, it will be more than 10 months before a resolution.
Timing bets involves taking advantage of various windows to potentially maximum money made. There are certain times of year to keep an eye on. Windows include the offseason, early season and trade deadline among the most significant. Numbers can even fluctuate more than normal at these times as well.
Do not panic or give in to early-season hype if teams get hot early. It is a marathon and not a sprint (82 games plus playoffs). There is a long way to go.
Injuries can derail bets before they start or give a helping hand if maladies affect the competition. That is why so much volatility exists in futures bets.
The NBA trade deadline is another inflection point as roster changes can be the difference in a short or deep playoff run. Sometimes the moves work out and sometimes they do not. Other times a depth move can help like New York acquiring Jose Alvarado for insurance.
Finally, managing one’s bankroll is the greatest priority. There seems to always be way too many options. Keeping wagers manageable and monitored can be helpful later if a hedging opportunity arises. Hedging is when a bettor makes an extra wager often against their original futures bet.

One bit of advice about favorites, contenders, and longshots
Following 30 teams is nearly impossible. The best betting tip is to monitor social media and research 6-8 teams starting in the offseason. Keeping things simple here is much like choosing a sportsbook. Ideally, reducing options to 1-2 favorite, contender, and longshot before making any final decisions is prudent.
Take your time again before getting down to those final wager(s).
Keep a limit and bet responsibly without spreading oneself too thin. Never put gambling ahead of family, friends, or activities.
2026-27 NBA futures calendar
Tracking the NBA schedule is important for anyone betting on NBA futures. From free agency to the Finals, each stage can affect how sportsbooks adjust NBA futures odds and team projections.
The NBA Draft often begins the next futures cycle, while free agency, preseason, the trade deadline and the playoffs can all create major price changes.
