2022 Heisman Trophy Props: Ohio State's C.J. Stroud The Early Favorite

The CFB season is quickly approaching, with Alabama entering as an early +200 favorite in the futures for the 2022-23 NCAA football National Championship. That being said, it's never too early for some online college football betting. Keep reading for the Heisman Trophy picks.

One of the most exciting props to bet on is the most decorated individual award in the sport, with Bama QB Bryce Young looking to repeat and win another in 2022 before he heads to the NFL. However, he isn't even the frontrunner right now, with Ohio State signal-caller C.J. Stroud the favorite to win the prestigious award with numerous offensive weapons around him.

C.J. Stroud

Stroud is leading the pack at +260 odds after a phenomenal redshirt freshman season. Despite Ohio State missing out on the College Football Playoff, Stroud balled out. He finished the campaign with 44 touchdowns (3rd in the nation), 4,435 yards (fifth), and threw just six interceptions. Stroud also completed over 71% of his passes. The quarterback even had seven games where he posted four or more touchdowns. The definition of dominant. I guess it does help that the Buckeyes are one of the favorites to win the National Championship, but their QB is truly one of the best around. Although they did lose a couple of key targets out wide in Garrett Wilson and Chris Olave to the NFL, there are a total of six starters returning to the OSU offense, which is only going to set Stroud up for success even more. Those were video game numbers he put up in 2021 and there's little doubt he'll do it again.

Bryce Young

Young had some big shoes to fill last season after taking over for Mac Jones, who had won the Heisman Trophy before getting drafted by the New England Patriots. Young became the second-straight Crimson Tide player to capture the award after throwing for 4,872 yards and 74 touchdowns while getting picked off just seven times. He led Alabama to a 13-2 record and an SEC title, only to lose to Georgia in the CFB National Championship. History is possible for Young, though. If he can win another Heisman, he'll be just the second player ever to do so in back-to-back years, the first being Archie Griffin in the mid-70s. Nick Saban has lost some weapons offensively, but they did a nice job of hitting the transfer portal and signing some new additions to bolster their team on both sides of the ball. At +600, there could be value in Heisman Trophy picks.

Caleb Williams

Williams is a tantalizing QB to keep an eye on in the Heisman race. He stole the starting job from Spencer Rattler at Oklahoma mid-way through the 2021 campaign, going 5-2 as the first stringer and ultimately led the Sooners to an Alamo Bowl win over Oregon. Many wondered where Williams would play next after Lincoln Riley left OU for USC and by no surprise, his quarterback followed him to Southern California and will almost certainly be the starter for a very good Trojans program with high expectations for 2022. Williams completed over 64% of his passes last season to go along with 21 touchdowns and 1,912 yards while throwing only four interceptions. We have to remember he was also a true freshman. With a year of experience under his belt, big things are expected out of Williams and his Heisman Trophy odds reflect just that.

Will Anderson Jr

The first non-QB on the list, Alabama linebacker Will Anderson Jr has the fourth-best odds to win the Heisman next season after finishing fifth in voting in 2021. Along with Aidan Hutchinson, Anderson was one of the most dominant pass-rushers in the entire country, racking up 17.5 sacks and 102 total tackles in a truly spectacular campaign for the Crimson Tide. Heading into his junior year, Williams is not only a candidate for the Heisman but he could also be the top selection in the 2022 NFL Draft. The 20-year-old didn't get an invite to the ceremony in New York where Young was named the Heisman winner and it did bother Williams. It's hard to imagine him putting up better numbers than he just did en route to leading the nation in sacks, but all signs point to Williams absolutely terrorizing opposing quarterbacks again.

Final Pick

It's been a very long time since a player won two Heismans in a row for a reason. It's truly that difficult. Young will surely have another big year but we're liking the odds favorite C.J. Stroud in the Heisman Trophy picks. He's full of confidence and has a tremendous offense around him that will make things even easier when it comes to being named the best player in the country.

Pick: C.J. Stroud to win the 2022 Heisman Trophy.
