2022 Tour de France Latest Betting; Jonas Vingegaard best bet to stop another Pogacar Win

Monday saw the riders enjoy a well-earned rest day, but the 2022 Tour de France is back underway today with the field heading in the direction of the Alps, where the action is set to intensify later in the week.

Today’s Stage 10 is classified as hilly. Starting in Morzine, the riders will travel 148km along steep terrains, towards the finish line in Megeve, in the Alps. Although this is not officially a mountainous stage, it is still going to be tough. And it will give the riders a taste of what’s set to come in the following two days, culminating in Thursday’s Stage 12 ending on the famous Alpe d’Huez.

Wednesday and Thursday's stages are classed as Mountains, and they will go some way to shaking up the General Classification. In the seven days since last Monday’s transfer day, there has been plenty of change in all the classifications. So let's take a look at what's happened on the tour and see what the latest is in the cycling betting odds.

Pogacar Strengthens His Grip on Yellow and the Favourites Tag

Pre-race Tour de France betting favorite, Tadej Pogacar is now in yellow, and as a result of increasing his lead over his main rivals, his odds have slightly shortened. I say slightly, as he has gone from -140 this time last week, to -250 this week.

If the Slovenian had blown his opponents out of the water, he would be far shorter than the -250 we currently see him at. This is because Jonas Vingegaard is currently still hanging in there at just 39 seconds behind the defending champion.

Jonas Vingegaard To win 2022 Tour de France

Vingegaard is the second favorite in the betting at +250, with the best online sportsbooks currently concluding the yellow jersey is a two-horse race between the Dane and Pogacar.

Ineos Grenadiers Duo Just About Hanging In There

The Ineos Grenadiers duo of Geraint Thomas and Adam Yates are next. Thomas is 1 minute and 17 seconds down on Pogacar in third place. While teammate Adam Yates 1 minute and 25 seconds off the yellow jersey.

Unlike Vingegaard, Thomas and Yates are far longer odds in the betting, with Thomas at +3300, and Yates at +5000. They are both behind Primoz Roglic, who is still third in the betting but has been massively pushed out to +2800 (he was +550 this time last week).

Roglic is back in 11th place, a massive 2 minutes and 52 seconds behind Pogacar. The 32-year-old 3-times winner of the Vuelta a Espana is capable of gaining some time back in the four remaining mountain stages (there are a further two next week on top of the two on Wednesday and Thursday this week), but it remains to be seen if he can make nearly three minutes up on Pogacar though.

At this moment in time, it looks like the best Roglic can achieve is a place on the podium.

As for the two Ineos riders, both Geraint Thomas and Adam Yates have shown they can just about cling onto Pogacar. But it’s doubtful whether either rider has a tour-winning attack in them that can take the yellow jersey off Pogacar in the remaining mountain stages.

Vingegaard Looking Most Likely To Upset Pogacar Procession

The one man that has looked equal to the 2020 and 2021 winner is Jonas Vingegaard. Although Pogacar ultimately took Stage 7 with a superb finish at La Super Planche des Belles Filles, the gauntlet was well and truly thrown down by Vingegaard.

The Dane proved that day that he is prepared to attack Pogacar. And the double defending champion now knows he is up against a guy who will make him fight to the end if he wants his third successive win.

Jonas Vingegaard looks capable of winning the race. But Pogacar showed what a true champion he is on Stage 7, and it would take a very brave punter to write him off from making it three in a row.

Van Aert Sprinting away with the Green Points Jersey

Elsewhere, and in the Points Classification, Wout Van Aert is now on 284 points and his odds have been slashed from -250 last Monday, to -1000. His closest rival is still Fabio Jakobsen, with the Dutchman on 149 points. In the Green Jersey betting, Jakobsen is a huge +1600 to overhaul the Belgian sprint ace.

GC favorite, Tadej Pogacar is third in the Points Classification with 139 points and is also third in this betting market at +2000.

Thibaut Pinot and Pogacar neck and next in King of the Mountains Betting

Finally, in King of the Mountains, the best cycling sportsbooks make Thibaut Pinot and Tadej Pogcar (is there no escaping this man) joint favorites at +300.

The current wearer of the Polka Dot jersey is Simon Geschke. BetOnline currently makes him their third favorite at +700.
