Max Verstappen dominated 2023, clinching his third successive championship title. The Constructors Championship went to Red Bull, who won all but one of the 22 races.
Moving into the new season, and this year there are a total of 24 rounds in 2024, the most ever in a Formula 1 season. There will also be six Sprints held. They are in China, Miami, Austria, Austin, São Paulo, and Qatar. And all the teams have got the same driver lineups they finished 2023 with.
There has been plenty of news over the past couple of weeks. Lewis Hamilton has announced he is off to Ferrari at the end of the 2024 season. And there is also an investigation into the conduct of Red Bull boss Christian Horner.
The rumors are suggesting Horner may not remain in his role. If he does leave, could this be the beginning of the end for the Austrian team’s domination?
Betting to win the 2024 Drivers’ Championship
At the moment, the news surrounding Horner doesn’t seem to have spooked the best Formula 1 online betting sites. After the 2023 season, they inserted Max Verstappen as their -375 favorite to win the 2024 Drivers’ Championship. And that’s the price he still is, even after the Horner bombshell.
So who are the likeliest drivers to challenge the dominance of Verstappen? Originally it was thought to be Lando Norris, who was made +700 second favorite at the end of the 2023 season. But now Lewis Hamilton has emerged as the most likely rival. The Brit has seen his odds slashed from +1100 to +750 in recent weeks. Lando Norris now finds himself down at +1600, third in the betting.

The chances are even if Christian Horner does leave Red Bull in the next few weeks, the structure in place at Red Bull is so robust that it won’t have any immediate effect. It may have long-term consequences for the team. But it’s unlikely to affect them too much in 2024.
The rest of the paddock was already expected to start closing the gap on Red Bull this season. But given that their cars were that far ahead in 2023, it is almost impossible to catch them in 2024. All the rest of F1 can do is try and get closer.

Betting to win the 2024 Drivers’ Championship w/o Verstappen
The betting without Verstappen is a more competitive futures market. As Red Bull is dominant Verstappen’s teammate Sergio Perez leads the way. He also started the 2023 season as the favorite, and after numerous mistakes and poor performances, he finally got the business done for his backers. Although Perez did make them sweat.
This year, Sergio Perez is +100 to win without Verstappen, which looks a bit short on the first reflection. Especially given how poorly he performed at times in 2023. In the end, the Red Bull No.2 finished 51 points clear of Lewis Hamilton. But Mercedes are expected to be better this year. And can we confidently say the same about Perez?
Elsewhere in this market, Lando Norris is the second favorite at +450, and Lewis Hamilton is at +500. The other two main contenders are Charles Leclerc (+600) and George Russell (+1400).

Our 2024 Drivers’ Championship w/o Verstappen Winner Pick
We feel that Charles Leclerc looks the best value bet in this market. He was out of the running early on in 2023 after a poor start to the season. But despite this, he finished joint-fourth on 206 points, 28 points behind Hamilton and 79 behind Perez. And this, despite trailing his teammate for the majority of the season.
Leclerc had a strong second half of 2024. But some poor team strategy calls cost him points in this section of the season. At this moment, it’s fair to say Ferrari is still unreliable in this department. But they will need to spend 2024 improving in this area in anticipation of the arrival of Hamilton.
The truth is that neither Perez nor Leclerc are reliable. But one is +100, and the other is +600.
