Even though Teoscar Hernandez isn't returning to defend his title, the 2025 MLB Home Derby is loaded with sluggers. The eight players entered in Monday's event at Atlanta's Truist Field have combined to clout 174 home runs so far this season.

It's Seattle Mariners catcher Cal Raleigh who is catching the eye of the oddsmakers. Raleigh, who leads MLB with 38 homers, is a slight +285 favorite. Pittsburgh Pirates centerfielder Oneil Cruz is a close second at a betting line of +315.

Let’s look at the latest MLB All-Star Game Home Run Derby betting lines. Remember, odds are always subject to change.

Young Players Tend To Dominate MLB Home Run Derby

At the age of 31, Hernandez is the oldest player to win the MLB Home Run Derby over the past eight years. Each of the other winners in that span was 26 or younger.

With the switch from outs to a time limit to determine who advances through each round, players with greater stamina tend to prevail.

Let's look at the top contenders for this event.

Cal Raleigh (+285)

Not only is Raleigh the MLB home run leader, but he's the only player among the top eight in homers this season who is entered in this event.

At 28, though, is he too old to be MLB Home Run Derby champ?

Oneil Cruz (+315)

On the surface, Cruz is batting .212 this season with just 15 home runs. He doesn't sound like an MLB Home Run Derby winner.

On paper, he looks like he's made for this role. Cuz has hammered the two hardest hit balls in the Statcast era. His swing speed and highest max swing speed are also the highest recorded averages. Cruz is also 26, the prime age for recent winners of this competition.

James Wood (+420)

Wood is ninth in MLB with 24 home runs. The 6-foot-7 outfielder has hit a pair of 451-foot homers this season and shows a max exit velo of 116.7 mph.

Matt Olson (+830)

Not only does Olson play for the Braves, but he's also from Atlanta. This would be the epitome of a hometown hero coming through.

Olson has hit only 17 homers this season, however.

Brent Rooker (+850)

Rooker has hit 20 home runs so far this season. He's on pace for his third straight 30-homer campaign.

Rooker had 21 homers at the All-Star Break last season, and 16 dingers by this point of the season in 2023.

Byron Buxton (+850)

Tied for 12th in MLB with 21 homers, the Twins star owns a 479-foot long ball this season. On the other hand, his home run max exit velo is just 112.5 mph.

Junior Caminero (+1000)

Currently 10th in MLB with 23 homers, Caminero of the Tampa Bay Rays comes into the MLB Home Run Derby carrying the hot bat.

He has slugged 13 home runs in his last 40 games. The only players with more home runs over that span are Raleigh, Aaron Judge, Eugenio Suarez, and Juan Soto.

Jazz Chisholm Jr. (+1200)

New York Yankees slugger Chisholm hit a 442-foot dinger this season, his longest since 2021. He'll be the first Bronx Bomber in this event since Judge competed in 2017.

MLB Home Run Derby Prop Bets

Cruz, with his reputation for driving the long ball, is set as the +185 favorite to be the hitter slugging the longest homer during the MLB Home Run Derby in a prop wager at BetUS. In an over/under wager on the distance of the longest homer, over 479.5 feet is established as the favorite to be the winning wager.

Raleigh (+130) and Cruz (+140) are the top betting picks to reach the final. A Raleigh vs Cruz clash is the +650 chalk to be the exact final matchup, although a Cruz vs Caminero final at +1400 is a tempting play to make.

It's Raleigh who's the +300 chalk to hit the most home runs in Round 1. Caminero to reach the semifinals at a betting line of +160 looks to be a very safe play to make.

MLB Home Run Derby Best Bet

Two traits are commonplace among recent MLB Home Run Derby winners. Seven of the last eight winners have been 26 years of age or younger. Each of the past eight champions displays a maximum exit velocity of 114 mph or higher.

+315

Three players in this year's field fit that mold - Cruz, Caminero, and Wood. While it's intriguing to take the value play on Caminero, Cruz feels like he's been built to win this competition. Go with Oneil Cruz as your MLB Home Run Derby best bet.
