NL Betting Odds

Before we get into our picks, let’s take a hard look at the NL pennant odds. These are available at the best MLB betting sites, and here’s your betting favorites:

You should know, depending on when you read this article, the betting lines will likely have shifted by now. With one month left to play in the regular season, things are shifting fast. Wildcard seeding is switching, division leaders are trading places, homefield advantage is swinging back and forth — all that creates variance in the odds.

To make sure you’re getting the most up-to-date MLB odds, double-check with a bookmaker. They can’t afford to NOT update lines when things change (e.g. an injury arises) so they are on top of things. As for who you should be putting money on, keep reading cause we cover that next!

NL Pennant Betting Picks

First things first, as a bettor, you can talk yourself into betting most of the top teams here. Every club has their pros and cons, after all. But to be successful at this betting thing, it’s just as important to decide who NOT to wager with. Money is limited so you have to pick wisely. For the NL pennant this year, this is our priority pick:

Los Angeles Dodgers

This is the safe pick, right? Here you have the defending World Series champions. The betting favorites. The most expensive team in all of baseball. Yet… LA has not played liked it most of 2025. They are 75-57, barely one game ahead of the Padres in the NL West so dangerously close to not having home-field in the first round of the playoffs.

Why the struggles? Per usual, it’s been injuries. The Dodgers have been decimated, particularly at pitching. It’s two big offseason signings — Blake Snell and Roki Sasaki — have barely been on the mound this year. Sure, Shohei Ohtani returned to pitching this year, but he’s been on a strict pitch count so far (he’s only thrown 27.1 innings).

But speaking of Ohtani, he’s one of the major reasons why the Dodgers remain a no-brainier bet here. He’s well on his way to another MVP award (that’s about to be four). So far, he’s belted 45 home runs — most in the MLB — to go with a .279 batting average, .389 OBP, .615 SLG, and a 1.004 OPS. He’s the engine behind one of MLB’s best offenses.

At the same time, we would NOT put all our eggs into the Dodgers' basket. As good as they’ve been over the last decade, the Boys in Blue have developed a penchant for early playoff disappointment. In the last six years, they’ve been one-and-done in the postseason three times. The other three? Two World Series wins and an NLCS loss.

So there you have it, LA is typically a boom-or-bust bet. A title or first-round exit. We’re betting on the former here, but they do warrant a backup bet. And that team is…

Philadelphia Phillies

The Phillies are at 76 wins and firmly in first in the NL East. That’s not going to be enough to unseat the Brewers for the top record in the NL, but even without home-field advantage throughout the playoffs, Philadelphia has the makeup to go the distance.

Why? Pitching, that’s why. You know how they say October baseball is all about pitching? We certainly believe that’s the case, which is why we’re so optimistic about the Phillies here.

Christopher Sanchez has become the club’s top arm. He’s making a strong case for NL Cy Young with absolutely flirty numbers — an 11-5 mark with a 2.66 ERA, 1.13 WHIP, and 173 strikeouts against 41 walks in 162.1 innings.

But… Sanchez hasn’t even been the best pitcher on his team most of this year. That would be Zack Wheeler. The veteran leads the league in strikeouts (by 20) and WHIP. Moreover, he ranks fifth in ERA, fourth in ERA+ and fourth among pitchers in WAR. That’s all fine and dandy, but blood clots just ended his season.

But this leads us back to our pick, if there’s one team that can weather a loss as great as Wheeler, it’s this Philadelphia team. The staff is loaded with the likes of lefties Ranger Suarez and Jesus Luzardo, plus right-handers Aaron Nola and Taijuan Walker. Our gut (and wallet) says they’ll eeke this out and bring some absolute arms to October baseball.
