OSB Dayton To Take Out VCU On Friday Night

The first full week of February heads into the weekend as the college basketball matchups get more intense! Teams keep battling for conference supremacy as Dayton tries to pad their lead. Guess what this means? That's right. Let's head on down to Richmond, Virginia. At Online Sports Betting, it rolls into this intriguing A10 matchup. So, first, we look at Dayton vs VCU Bets and the Dayton Flyers. They go on the road to VCU to face the Rams in what will be a tough test.

  • WHAT: Dayton Flyers versus VCU Rams
  • WHEN: Friday, February 9th, 2024, 7:00 pm ET on ESPN2 and streamed on ESPN+
  • WHERE: Stuart C. Siegel Arena, Richmond, Virginia
  • WHY: A10 Friday Matchup

The bettors were keen on Auburn but this game might be a bit different. The Dayton vs VCU Bets see the Flyers as a battle tested team this Friday nightt. Now, betting on NCAA College Men's basketball futures are something else. Okay, these two teams are more worried about NCAA Tournament seeding. Anyway, below are the A10 numbers, thanks to Bovada Online Sportsbook.

Dayton vs VCU Bets Believe The Flyers Learned A Lesson

Dayton vs VCU Bets believe the Flyers learned a lesson. So, that St. Bonaventure game was far more of an adventure than it probably should have been. The Flyers held on for a narrow home victory. Since then, Dayton pounded St. Joesph behind a 94-point offensive outburst. Again, there are ebbs and flows in every season. The Flyers have three losses but have only lost once since American Thanksgiving (Richmond).

Also, Dayton heads back to the Richmond area as they seek revenge of sorts. The Richmond area has not been kind historically to Dayton and VCU are far from slouches. This Rams team was 27-8 last year and is 15-8 (7-3 in conference) this year. VCU stands a good chance of making the NCAA Tournament especially if they make a deep conference tournament run. Dayton, however, has higher ambitions including maybe a four or five seed and potentially a tournament run.

Let us go for the gold and grapple with this Friday night matchup between the Rams and Flyers. This could very well decide control of the A10. If Dayton wins, they get to ten conference wins and likely never look back. A loss adds some spice to the conference race.

Riding Those Red Hot Flyers

The Dayton vs VCU Bets are riding those red hot Flyers. Anthony Grant plays a structured style that can infuriate some teams and drive them crazy. However, at times, Grant's squad can let it fly and score with the best. That is partly why the team only averages 75 points a game. They only yield 65 a contest which ranks 30th in the nation defensively. A big key to Dayton's offense is their ability to shoot from three-point range. They are fifth in the nation at 40% from beyond the arc.

So, this is where the battle of contrasts takes center stage. VCU is one of the better teams at stopping the three-point shot. They rank tenth overall as opponents only shoot 28.9%. The Rams rank eighth overall in free-throw percentage at 78.5%. The problem with that is Dayton is third in the country yielding only 12.5 foul shots per game. Teams do not get to the line as often when playing Dayton. The Flyers play a style that rewards their perimeter shooters while slowing down their opponents.

Alright, Dayton carries a respectable 10 point margin of victory. The Flyers played a tougher schedule as well compared to VCU. Now, this does mean Friday night's game will be far from easy. However, did anyone look at the spread? Two points is not a lot to ask for here. DaRon Holmes II and Nate Santos have been quite a front court presence in conference play. Expect that to be the case once more on Friday at VCU.

Again, VCU has three Top 100 GSCI players compared to one for Dayton. However, that one for Dayton is a huge one. Holmes II will be a First Team All A10 Player at season's end. Can Toibu Lawal and the Rams' front court slow down a stronger 2-3-4 Dayton setup?

Dayton vs VCU Picks Laying Two Points?

Okay, what about Dayton vs VCU Picks laying two points? The rationale betting Dayton is simple. Will it be a hair-raising challenge? Yes! VCU expects to keep this game close. Again, their defensive pressure is on the level of Dayton's and their defense of the three-point shot is well documented. The bigger key is which team gets the other in foul trouble better. On the surface, the Flyers present a better chance of doing that and why we side with the favorites.

Now, this Dayton team has been here before. VCU has Ryan Odom who so far has coached his pants off. However, could he face a bit too much of an uphill climb here? That is possible. Odom is the son of Dave Odom who has some experience in big games like this. However, it is always different like this and this is not like Utah State.

Simply, the cover is there for the Flyers but it is not for the faint of heart on Friday night.

Race To The X

Lastly, Dayton vs VCU Bets looks at "Race To The X". This game features an Under of 135.5. Honestly, the books again have this nicely set. Projections keep coming in around 135-137 points. One publication had Dayton winning 70-67. That would not surprise us. Hence, our Race to 20 favors Dayton at only -115 in the first 20. Take it Friday!
