Just five points separated these two teams during the regular season, which is why it's no surprise the series has been an absolute battle. The Devils come into Game 5 as a -117 favorite, while the Rangers sit at +106 odds. The total sits at just 5.5 goals since the last two contests were relatively low-scoring, ending with 2-1 and 3-1 scorelines in the Big Apple.

Game 5 Preview

The Rangers came out firing on all cylinders to begin this series in Jersey, notching 5-1 wins in back-to-back games. However, their free-scoring ways came to a halt at home, scoring just twice in Games 3 and 4 at MSG. New York was kept off the scoresheet until the third period Monday, but it was too little too late.

Vincent Trocheck found the back of the net in the third to tie things up at one. That being said, the Devils responded with two unanswered to officially even up the series at two. Igor Shesterkin made 22 saves in the loss and has actually been extremely solid in between the posts, he's just not getting any support at the opposite end of the ice. Needless to say, the Rangers really need to start producing. Thursday is a prime opportunity to do so.

The Devils had their backs up against the wall heading on the road into a hostile environment at the Garden. Thankfully, they dug deep and pulled out a pair of vital wins. In Game 3, New Jersey came out victorious in overtime thanks to Dougie Hamilton then on Monday, they clutched up again.

NJ got off to a good start with an early goal through Jack Hughes in the first period, his third of the postseason. As previously mentioned, the Rangers equalized but the Devils fired right back with two goals, including an empty netter to seal the deal.

Hughes is going to be very important in Game 5. The youngster is red-hot lately, scoring six goals and supplying seven assists over his last 10 outings. With a clean bill of health, the hope is New Jersey can take advantage of home ice Thursday and move one step closer to advancing to the second round.

Rangers vs Devils Game 5 Picks

Could the Devils really lose another one at home? I mean, it's possible. However, I truly believe they will win one in front of the New Jersey faithful and take a 3-2 lead in the series heading back to the Big Apple. Take the moneyline.
