  • What: NHL Playoffs.
  • Who: Florida Panthers at Toronto Maple Leafs
  • When: Wednesday, May 13, 7:00 p.m.

It's been all about home cooking through four games of the second-round NHL playoffs series between the Florida Panthers and Toronto Maple Leafs. The Leafs opened with back-to-back wins in Toronto. Shifting to Florida, the Panthers took both games to pull even in this best-of-seven set.

Despite that record of home-ice perfection, oddsmakers are leaning toward change being the order of the day for Game 5. The Panthers are set as the -138 away favorites in NHL playoffs betting.

Let's look at the latest betting line on this game. Remember, odds are subject to change.

Panthers vs Maple Leafs Betting Trends

The Panthers have won six of the last nine meetings with the Maple Leafs. At Toronto, though, the Leafs have won three straight over the Panthers.

Florida is 6-3 straight up through the club's past nine games. However, the Panthers are 1-5 SU in their last six visits to Toronto. On the other hand, they are 9-4 SU in the team's last 13 meetings with Atlantic Division opposition.

The Maple Leafs are 15-5 SU in their past 20 games. Toronto is 11-1 SU in its last 12 home games. The Maple Leafs are 10-4 SU in their last 14 games against teams from the Atlantic Division.

Six of the last nine games between these two teams have gone over. The over also hit in three of the last five games between the Panthers and Leafs played in Toronto.

The total has gone over in six of Florida's past seven games. Playing the over has also paid off through five of the last six road games played by the Panthers. Also, the over came in as the winning play on the total in nine of Florida's last 11 contests against Eastern Conference opposition.

Four of Toronto's last five games went over. However, 13 of the last 19 Toronto vs Florida games hit on the under. Five of the last seven games that Toronto has played against both Atlantic Division and Eastern Conference opponents went over.

The Maple Leafs are 17-12-3 SU as a betting underdog this season. Toronto is 24-22 against the puck line as a home team. Florida is 21-25 against the puck line as the road club. The Panthers are 43-30-3 SU as the favorite in the betting line.

Panthers Goalie Bob On The Rebound

Florida goalie Sergei Bobrovsky wasn't really tested in the first round as the Panthers shunted aside the Tampa Bay Lightning in five games. He certainly wasn't resembling his Stanley Cup championship and two-time Vezina Trophy-winning form during the first two games of this series, allowing nine goals.

Then, Goalie Bob re-emerged. He was a brick wall in Game 4, looking much like Playoff Bob, the guy who's backstopped the Panthers to successive Stanley Cup final appearances. Bobrovsky stopped 22 shots for a 2-0 shutout. According to Natural Stat Trick, he saved 1.8 goals above average and parried seven high-danger shots.

Matthews Missing In Action For Maple Leafs

No player has scored more goals in the league than the 401 Auston Matthews has tallied since entering the NHL in 2016. Trouble is, the Maple Leafs captain just doesn't seem to be able to find the scoring range when it matters most.

Matthews has scored just three goals in his last 20 games during the NHL playoffs. His frequent partner in crime Mitch Marner was also MIA in FLA. Marner didn't account for a single shot on goal in the two games at Florida.

Florida vs Toronto NHL Playoffs Picks

Whatever the outcome of this game, here's something to keep in mind if you're planning to bet the puck line - expect it to be hard fought and close. Florida's 2-0 victory in Game 4 was just the second among the past seven games between the Panthers and Maple Leafs that didn't end in a one-goal decision. In seven of the last eight times when they've met in Toronto the end result was a one-goal verdict.
