  • Who: Dallas Stars at Edmonton Oilers
  • When: Tuesday, May 27, 8:00 p.m.

For the first time since the opening game of this spring's NHL playoffs, the Dallas Stars are down in a series. A 6-1 loss to the Oilers at Edmonton in Game 3 of the Western Conference final sees Dallas trailing in a series. That's not happened since the Stars were losing Game 1 of the opening round to Colorado.

Down 2-1 in the best-of-seven set, coupled with a Game 2 setback it's also the first time in these NHL playoffs that the Stars have lost two games in a row.

Oddsmakers are viewing this as a developing trend. It's Edmonton that is set as -160 home-ice favorites for Game 4 on Tuesday.

Let's look at the latest betting line on this game. Remember, odds are subject to change.

In NHL playoffs future wagering, the Oilers are set as the -360 chalk to win this series over Dallas and move on to the Stanley Cup final for the second successive year.

Stars vs Oilers Betting Trends

Head-to-head the Oilers are 6-3 SU in the last nine games against the Stars. At Edmonton the Oilers hold a 4-1 SU edge in the last five games against Dallas.

The Stars are 1-5 SU in their last six road games. Dallas, though, is 10-4 SU in the last 14 meetings with teams from the Pacific Division.

Edmonton is an impressive 10-2 SU over the past 12 games. That includes a 5-1 SU record over the last five home games played by the Oilers. Edmonton is 8-2 SU in the last 10 meetings with clubs from the Western Conference.

The over is 4-1 in the last five games between the Oilers and Stars. At Edmonton, the over is 6-1 on the total in the last seven visits by Dallas.

The total has gone under in six of the last nine games played by Dallas. However, it's worth noting that two of the three games in this series have hit on the over. The over is also 6-2-1 in the last nine games that Dallas has played against Pacific Division opposition.

The total is 2-3-1 in Edmonton's last six games. However, the over/under is 4-2-1 through the past eight home games played by the Oilers. Nine of the last 11 games Edmonton has played facing teams from the Western Conference have gone over.

The Oilers are 45-28-4 SU as a betting favorite this season. Edmonton is 18-29 against the puck line as a home team. Dallas is 18-30 against the puck line as the road club. The Stars are 8-12-2 SU as the underdog in the betting line.

Dallas Needs To Rediscover Defensive Acumen

Air tight defense is a trademark for the Stars when things are going well. Prior to the start of this series, they'd allowed two goals or fewer in five of their previous seven games in the NHL playoffs.

Edmonton has scored 12 goals in three games and at least three goals in each game of the set. Dallas has been outscored 9-1 in back-to-back losses.

The Stars felt they were the better team even though they lost Game 3 by a 6-1 count and analytics actually supported that thesis. Dallas is also expecting to get No. 1 center Roope Hintz back for Game 4. Second on the team in scoring (5-6-11), Hintz missed Game 3 after being slashed in the foot by Oilers defenseman Darnell Nurse.

Oilers McDavid Continues To Own Stars

There's a familiar issue afoot for the Stars in this series. They need to find a way to slow down Oilers captain Connor McDavid.

He accounted for two goals in Edmonton's 6-1 verdict over Dallas in Game 2. He now has 5-10-15 totals in the Oilers' nine Western Conference final games against Dallas over the past two springs.

Dallas vs Edmonton NHL Playoffs Picks

A better start would certainly help the Dallas cause. The Stars have yet to score first in a road game during the 2025 NHL playoffs.
