As people in the state are quite familiar with, South Carolina betting remains illegal for sports fans, as SC is one of 11 states without it being an option. However, places like Kalshi and PolyMarket continue to grow in popularity, which is not good at all. And with that, it's really no secret that prediction markets continue to complicate the South Carolina betting push, and it's something that really has no end in sight right now.

In case you missed it, South Carolina has been working to bring an end to the prediction markets, but the problem continues to be that they are regulated at a Federal level. Well, South Carolina got involved with 44 other states in sending a letter to the CFTC to urge them to reconsider the current laws. Straight up, those 44 states believe prediction markets should be regulated at a state level, and not a Federal one. This is something South Carolina officials want to see changed soon.

"States and the CFTC have been locked in a jurisdictional battle ever since prediction market exchanges’ volumes exploded last year, primarily driven by the popularity of their sports-related contracts," CNBC reported in a recent article that has been making the rounds. "The 2026 FIFA World Cup sent platform volumes to new heights."

This summer alone, the use of prediction markets skyrocketed. It should be no surprise that the states without legal sports betting options, including South Carolina, were the ones to see a rise in things. Those numbers are only going to keep on growing with football season here (more on that below). For South Carolina, it continues to be behind with legalization, and no one knows when things might get pushed over the line. Maybe next year? Who knows.

We see states record an incredible amount of tax betting revenue each month, with that money used to help fund resources across the state. It benefits local citizens too, as that money is being used to help out the state as a whole.

However, only prediction markets are in operation, and South Carolina doesn't get a penny from any of the revenue there. Is that fair for the state? Not at all, which is why there should be urgency to get sports betting legalized so officials can take advantage of the sports betting tax revenue advantages. For now, there's no rush in South Carolina to make that happen, which is a mistake.

As things stand, the Los Angeles Rams remain the clear favorites to win the Super Bowl this year, but other teams are in the hunt.

While the Panthers aren't big-time threats, you never know what might be in the works for Bryce Young and others this season.
