Betting On Miami Dolphins Online

The Dolphins, coming off of a 6-10 record in 2015, are more desperate than ever to make a postseason appearance. The Dolphins last playoff appearance was in 2008, when the team dropped a 27-9 decision to the [+]

Baltimore Ravens in the first round. The current playoff drought is also the longest one in franchise history. The only other drought lasted six years, from 2002 to 2007. However, Miami has a proud history which includes two Super Bowl titles.

Upon the merging of the AFL and NFL in the 1970s, the Dolphins established themselves as a powerhouse team in the NFL, making three Super Bowl appearances from 1971 to 1973. They won back-to-back Super Bowls in 1972 and 1973.

The Dolphins remained a powerful team throughout the 1980s, earning two more AFC Championships in 1982 and 1984. From 1983 to 1999, Miami was home to one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time – Dan Marino. Marino is third on the list of all-time NFL passing leaders chart with 61 364 passing yards in 17 seasons. Unfortunately the Hall Of Fame inductee never got a chance to hoist the Super Bowl.

The Dolphins were able to maintain some measure of success after Marino’s departure, as defensive line players like Zach Thomas stepped up to the challenge. Other notable Dolphins at the turn of the century included running back Ricky Williams, who set a team record in 2002 for rushing yardage with 1,853 yards, and Jason Taylor, who was the NFL Defensive Player of the Year in 2006.

Miami Dolphins Online Betting Tips

One of the Dolphins’ main weaknesses in the 2015 season was its defense. While Miami Dolphins’ safety Reshad Jones and cornerback Brent Grimes played in the 2016 Pro-Bowl, they were rather vulnerable on all other defensive aspects. Allowing an average of 376.2 yards per game, Miami placed near the bottom of the NFL in total team defense.

The Dolphins were not particularly powerful on either side of the ball. Quarterback Ryan Tannehill was a strong passing asset for the Fish but Miami still finished 26th overall in offensive yards per game, averaging just 331.7 yards per game.

Will Ryan Tannehill Ever Compare To Dan Marino?

While it definitely would be an exaggeration to say that the Dolphins’ overall offense is particularly impressive, Miami quarterback Ryan Tannehill performed with a high level of consistency during the 2015 season. Tannehill set an NFL record in 2015 with 25 consecutive completions.

In a game in October against the Houston Texans, he became the 64th person in league history to earn a perfect passer rating. Even if Tannehill doesn’t earn the same type of distinction as Marino during his illustrious career, he still has the potential of being Miami’s new franchise quarterback.
