Betting On Detroit Lions Online

After rattling off just seven victories in 2015 and missing the playoffs for the 14th time in the last 16 years, the Detroit Lions are…not in a position to get much better. Top receiver Calvin Johnson has retired, and the defense which ranked in the bottom 10 of points allowed per game, is undergoing what appears to be a thorough reboot. Even if quarterback Matthew Stafford manages to have a bounce back year, this is not a recipe for success at the sportsbooks. [+]

Two of the Lions’ top four draft picks came on the defensive side of the ball. They addressed their needs at defensive tackle and strong saftey, and swung for the fences on the offensive line, selecting Taylor Decker out of Ohio St. with the 16th overall pick, a move that quickly qualified as a necessity.

If the Lions are to effectively combat Calvin Johnson’s absence, they’ll need to give Stafford more time to let losse. They also need to get more out of the running back position, which falls to sophomore Ameer Abdullah and the do it all Theo Riddick.

But they remain air it out specialisits, and with a lack of big time playmakers lining up adjacent Stafford, the offensive line will need to give him a ton of time and hope he can be the one making plays, either with his feet or his cannon of an arm. Otherwise, the Lions are in big trouble.

Detroit Lions Game Schedule

Feast your eyes on the Detroit Lions’ complete game schedule here. Any bettor worth his or her salt will use this often, as a way of strengthening forthcoming wagers. [+]

For starters, this schedule at a glance lets you plan bets ahead of time. Accurate game lines won’t always be at your disposal, but you can create a concrete idea of how you’re going to bet by weighing positional matchups, team play styles, injury reports, current records and so much more.

Then, once the lines are officially released and the time to place your bet is here, you’ll know what you’re betting on (moneyline, spread, over/under, etc.) and which side of the coin you’ll be taking.

Valuable still, you can use the schedule to look at how the Lions have fared against certain teams, play styles and situations in the past.

Are they playing well at home? Are they getting destroyed on the road? Is the offense better than expected and covering a ton of overs? Has the defense improved or regressed and thus impacted the unders?

Have any specific teams, those who specialize in offense or defense, given the Lions trouble? How have they they performed against division rivals? NFC opponents? AFC foes?

Seek to answer these questions each and every week, and trust that your sportsbook purse will feel the difference.

Emerging as surprise NFC Championship or Super Bowl odds plays is just about out of the question as a result. On the off chance it’s not, though, routine looks at their standings will let you know.

Detroit Lions Online Betting Tips

To start the 2016 betting season, view the Detroit Lions as an intriguing under play. It sounds weird, even downright ignorant, given their past play styles, but we’re entering a unique window in this team’s history.

No, the defense isn’t going to be good. But it should be better than it was last season. Tack on the fact that the Lions won’t be scoring as nearly as many points after a 2015 effort in which they ranked a cruddy 18th in scores per game, and there’s no reason to expect that they’ll light up any defenses.

For the record, one or more things could go wrong with this approach. The Lions are bizarrely built right now and could, feasibly, overachieve or underachieve on either side of the ball. So you’ll want to keep your eyes peeled as the season wears on.

In the beginning, though, investing in the under is the way to go—unless you’re content to avoid weekly plays altogether.

Someone on the Detroit Lions’ offense will need to make a substantial leap in order for you to consider this team anything more than situational weekly play.

This roster, when taken at face value, doesn’t have playoff potential written on it at all—not at the divisional or wild card level. And that’s in large part because of Calvin Johnson’s retirement. The Lions weren’t in great shape with him, but the offense is in unpredictable straits without him.

Golden Tate is now the team’s No. 1 receiver, when really, he’s a No. 2 on even his best day. Will he make measurable progress? Will either of the guys behind him, Marvin Jones, Corey Fuller or Jeremy Kerley, make big enough jumps?

Can their top two tight ends, Eric Ebron and Brandon Pettigrew, shoulder most of the air attack production? Will Ameer Abdullah and Theo Riddick make for a legitimate two-headed monster in the backfield?

The answer to more than one of those questions has to be yes. The Lions won’t keep pace in their division with the Green Bay Packers or Minnesota Vikings otherwise. There are no assurances that, failing successful internal development, they’ll be better or just as good as the Chicago Bears.

Consider the Lions just weekly plays unless they start playing over their heads. Even offseason win totals aren’t worth the trouble at this point. You need more information on this team, this exact core, before you start investing money into its macro performance.
