McGregor vs. Mayweather stats

Mayweather vs. McGregor: Tale of the tape

Floyd Mayweather can add to his legacy when arguably the greatest boxer of all time takes on UFC star Conor McGregor in a 12-round bout Aug. 26 in Las Vegas.

Oddsmakers aren’t giving McGregor much of a chance in the highly anticipated match, pegging “Money” Mayweather as an overwhelming -710 favorite against the Irishman.

Some of boxing’s best athletes tend to agree.

“McGregor has no chance in this fight,” WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao — Mayweather’s long-time rival in the ring — told The Sun in the UK recently.

However in the days following the announcement of the fight, money poured in on McGregor, suggesting there’s a possibility the reining UFC lightweight champion could pull off one of the biggest upsets in professional sports history.

Let’s take a look at some of the stats for both fighters and see how they stack up heading into the Aug. 26 bout.

Floyd Mayweather

Odds to win: -710 (BetOnline)

Record: 49-0

Knockouts: 26

Division: Welterweight

Fight Style: Orthodox

Height: 5’ 8”

Reach: 72”

Outlook: Floyd Mayweather, now 40 years old, hasn’t fought in nearly two years, leading many to believe there could be some rust on the five-division world champion. It will be 714 days since Mayweather’s last victory, which came on Sept. 12, 2015. However, Mayweather is elusive, so expect him to dance around the ring and attack at the right moments — much like he did in his victory over Pacquiao in 2015.

Mayweather has faced opponents throughout his illustrious career with much faster hands than McGregor, who has never fought in a straight-up boxing match. Seven of Mayweather’s last victories have come by decision, so expect the same outcome against McGregor, who will be hungry to end the bout as early as possible with a single punch. While Mayweather is heavily favored, he does give up 12 years in age difference, which many believe will play a factor especially the longer the bout goes.

Bettors won’t get much value on Mayweather at -710, but there are several enticing prop bets that are worth putting your money on. Placing a wager on Mayweather winning by decision is a value bet at +175. If you’re betting by the round, take Mayweather at +1000 to take the opening round, as McGregor may come out full of nerves.

Conor McGregor

Odds to win: +535 (BetOnline)

Record: 21-3 (MMA), 9-1 (UFC)

Knockouts: 18

Division: Lightweight

Fight Style: Standup/Striker

Height: 5’ 9”

Reach: 74”

Outlook: There’s no doubt McGregor is the hardest puncher Mayweather will have ever faced in the boxing ring. The problem for McGregor will be trying to connect with a punch that could KO the welterweight champion. McGregor — 12 years younger — has the height and reach advantage heading into the Aug. 26 bout against Mayweather.

However, the UFC lightweight titleholder lacks one major thing: boxing experience. It will be a transition for McGregor, who will go from using four-ounce gloves in MMA to much-heavier 10-ounce boxing gloves.

The longer this bout goes, the more McGregor will be at a disadvantage as the Irishman has a long history of running out of gas in longer matches. If you’re looking to hit the jackpot, BetOnline is offering +600 odds that McGregor will win by knockout or TKO.
