Bet on Canelo Alvarez

After winning against Gennady Golovkin back in September 2022, Canelo underwent surgery on his left wrist. Canelo revealed that he began training again in January 2023, likely aiming at a warm-up fight this upcoming May. Although boxing fans were expecting him to go up against a more challenging rival, Canelo decided he’d rather take on a mid-level opponent to ease his return to the ring after recovering from his surgery. Still, he did reveal interest in facing his Russian foe, Bivol, later during the year.

As for Canelo’s next potential adversary, John Ryder, has 32 wins, 5 losses, and zero draws under his belt. The English boxer has openly expressed his admiration for Alvarez and is looking forward to potentially fighting the four-division world champion in May. Ryder won over Zach Parker last year, which won him both the WBO Interim World Super Middleweight title and the opportunity to possibly have his dream bout against Canelo.

The fight is likely to take place in Jalisco, Canelo’s hometown, although the venue has not yet been finalized. The last time Canelo fought in Mexico was 12 years ago when he beat Kermit Cintron in Mexico City.

There’s no question that Ryder would be a huge underdog for Alvarez, but it still will be interesting to see if he gets past Ryder, so that he can finally have the much-anticipated rematch against Bivol.

Online sportsbooks have pegged Canelo as the clear heavy favorite, but the odds are still likely to shift somewhat as the match begins to draw closer. We’ll have all the news and updates before Canelo’s fights.
